"Skank"? And you all wonder why the left thinks you're a bunch of sexists? I know you're a woman, but hey, maybe it's just a case of Stockholm Syndrome.

I Blame the Patriarchy had a post up recently about the common radfem notion that all heterosexual sex is rape, without exception. I was fed up and posted a sarcastic rebuttal to the idea: http://www.ethecofem.com/2011/07/how-much-time-sh...

Breitbart.tv : Hannity Can't Believe Breitbart Continues to Confront Leftist Mobs

I'm totally shocked that Breitbart's appearance at Netroots was reported completely inaccurately. Interesting how that keeps happening, over and over and over and over and over and over again. What a coincidence that he came in during a long lunch break during which time the vast majority of NN attendees were not in the Convention Center, so that there weren't a ton of people around to witness the actual event for themselves, so he could try and get away with lying about the so-called "mob." Also weird how he must have forgotten that he tried to get into the paid area and whined that he wasn't allowed in. What a bunch of crap. I, along with several others who came back from lunch early, witnessed something very different than what Hannity and Breitbart are pretending happened.

Womanist Musings : It's Friday and The Question Is.........

Six Feet Under!! I got into the show a couple years after it ended, but have since watched it at least 3 times in full, all 5 seasons. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. Best writing, fantastic plot, interesting concept. Alan Ball, who I believe is responsible for True Blood, is the creator and writer. I also really love Wonderfalls, which only had a few episodes aired, but they shot the full first season and released it on DVD. Bryan Fuller, the creator, also did Pushing Daisies, which was on a bit longer, but was also canceled (also a fun show). I think there are a lot of similarities between Joss Whedon and Bryan Fuller, in that they both have shows that always wind up prematurely canceled, a cult following, and funky imagery. Wonderfalls was also filmed in Canada and features a lot of Canadian actors, if that is of interest to you at all...

Disgusting. The suggestions to join the military made me furious. Those types of people still believe the propaganda that joining the military means you're a hero and doing a service for your country. Defending our country is one thing; encouraging poor, homeless people to participate in the military industrial complex is another entirely. I'm sick and tired of this military propaganda. I've got family who are veterans, and many of them yell and insult me and call me "unAmerican" because I'm not willing to be uncritically patriotic and join in on the pornographic flag-waving bullsh*t that happens as a result. And they don't get that being critical of our military and the current wars we're fighting means I hate people in the military, which is so profoundly ridiculous. Sorry. Memorial Day brings out the worst of my Facebook news feed. I needed to vent somewhere...

I once went to go see a movie with Nicolas Cage, who was driving an ambulance. I don't remember what it was called, but it was the first time I ever walked out of a theater because the movie was so profoundly boring. OH, and who could forget At First Sight?! By far the most ridiculous crap I ever subjected myself to. I saw it when I was like, 15, and knew even then just how wretched it was.

Womanist Musings : Thoughts on Buffy Season One

My Buffy-loving friends also promise me it will get better. We'll see.
I know that as a viewer because of the genre, I am supposed to suspend belief, but really, how is it that so many teenagers from ONE high school can be murdered or commit suicide on a weekly basis, without a single parent having a shit fit? You would think people would be avoiding that school in droves, what with the death rate and all.
SERIOUSLY. I struggle with this constantly watching Whedon stuff (and really, everything else. I am utterly incapable of suspending disbelief).

Blogger can kiss my ass for deleting massive amount of not only recent posts by more than one blogger, but also long drafts. Arg. New on ethecofem: Bema highlights the tragic story of a mother with terminal breast cancer who a judge has ruled unable to care for her children and placed them in the custody of her allegedly abusive ex-husband, who lives in Chicago (mother and children live in North Carolina-- quite far). Bema's picks for the best films of the decade. An exhaustive and diverse list; check it out, and name your faves! My thoughts on SlutWalk. We had a storm the other day in the Twin Cities, and I took some pictures of the really intense clouds. On the racism of Andrew Breitbart and the Tea Party, and how they are upset about being called bigots, because they have no understanding of what racism, sexism, and homophobia -- the things they're accused of most often -- really are. Thanks for hosting these, Renee. It's great to highlight the posts you link to and allow your readers to do the same. It's greatly appreciated.

Womanist Musings : Drop It Like It's Hot

We have a new writer at ethecofem (Bema! Read his posts! He's great!) and so we actually have a lot of new stuff up: Bema on the ethical implications of the different ways in which to have a kid. He also talks about Panela. ethecofem is on Facebook! Come like our page! According to one Minnesota State lawmaker, abortion exists because men are perverts, and the only way to make them stop being perverts is for women to buck up and take responsibility for their actions-- the men's, that is-- and stop having all those abortions to let them off the hook. I got a job with a local environmental non-profit, and really sort of hated everything about it. Bema would love your advice and take on how his interview went with Organizing for America. On constricting closets. Some kid-picture nostalgia. Minnesota State Representative appears to have created a new slogan for the fight for equal marriage. On how this is not the time for pride-- on bin Laden's death.

I stared at a picture of Princess Beatrice in that hat for like, an hour last night, and just laughed, and laughed. The physical statement of class privilege that most irritates me are cars. Of course, a quality vehicle is something that anyone who needs to drive will want; I'm referring to those that are well above and beyond utilitarian, or even aesthetic, purposes. Not to mention vehicles like Hummers being used by typical suburban families. Very, very few people ever need the kind of space inside of a vehicle that a Hummer provides. How wasteful.

Womanist Musings : Did You Know That Bloggers Who Act Like Men Do Better?

I'm so tired of reading and hearing things like "do _______ 'like a man'," because it only serves to perpetuate the idea that men-- and only men-- can be aggressive, confident, and worthy of attention. I wish the author would have noted those qualities by themselves, rather than referenced how "manly" they are.
