unfictional : Joe Frank: A Conversation - UnFictional on KCRW

I completely agree. If it were an actual interview and not a "funny" improv, I'd understand. This was just aural black face.

SPOILERS: I started questioning this when the reverend misquoted the Bible. For those who could not stomach the whole thing, guess what? It's David Cross doing an aural version of black face. WHAT were they thinking? WHAT is the point of creating a hyper-stereotypical character and WHY did you think you were the people to do it? Stunned that this earned air time anywhere, but especially on NPR. Offensive.

The Business - KCRW : VFX Pro Rob Legato; Forgotten Filmmaker: Georges Melies - The Business on KCRW

Great interview with Rob Legato. Pushed me right over the tipping point to wanting to see Hugo in 3D. Thrilled to know a bit of the history of the restoration of A Trip to the Moon, a film I've been infatuated with since I was about twelve!

I probably wouldn't have found this book if I hadn't heard this interview. It was an amazing read, and you were right, Michael, I didn't want it to end. Looking forward to reading more of John Sayles' fiction.

Terrific story. I love how Irv's voice sounds a bit like Groucho's.

Thank you so much for this interview! Not only am I looking forward to buying and reading the book, but your discussion about the state of publishing was heartening. I'm a writer who's having a hard time keeping the faith. Most of my writer friends are battling a sense of despair. I'm spreading the word about this interview and book. There's so much creative energy out there right now throwing itself against the walls, it's good to hear someone talk about the frustrations and the possibilities. Sayles is right, the speadsheet model of publishing isn't working. http://anygivensundry.wordpress.com/2011/07/09/a-...

Good Food : 10 Essential Cookbooks

Thanks for the suggestions for Persian and Mediterannean cooking... I didn't even realize I was craving these books, but I think my herb garden has been asking me to go in this direction. It's not a cook book, really, but Russ Parson's How to Pick a Peach is a resource I return to every season for a reminder of simple recipes that bring out the flavors of fruits and veggies at their peak.

Good Food : In the Studio: Dr. Andrew Weil Visits Good Food

Great interview. I'm looking forward to the rest with great interest. Dr. Weil's advice helped me change my life to reduce stress. I love an approach that tells us how to make things better without focusing so much on the Don'ts. I didn't realize just how okay sardines were. I love canned sardines but have never had fresh ones. I'm hoping to find a source for fresh sardines in the SF Valley or Antelope Valley (or anywhere in between)!

I've eaten there three times even though I live about 50 miles away. I really liked the green tea sliced pork noodles and the dumplings. Closed? No!

Good Food - KCRW : Window Farming; Bloody Clams; Pad Thai; Gazpacho - Good Food on KCRW

This may be one of your best shows ever, and that's saying a lot! Love all the summer-cool food reports. I'm going to seek out some of the coffee and tea beverages. Nopgow Thai in Palmdale has good brown pad Thai, served with lime, ground peanuts, cilantro, and mung bean sprouts on the plate, and chili sauce on the table. I'd like to know where to get good pad Thai in the San Fernando Valley, where I work. I was served a nasty glop of bright pink noodles the last time I ordered. No lime. No sprouts. I couldn't eat it. Also, thanks for the Santa Monica Market Report update on the bees. Good for Santa Monica.
