Great post, Aila! Rating books honestly is hard for me. I don't have a problem with being the black sheep, but sometimes I rate books higher than I think they should be rated because I feel bad about giving a book a lower rating. I know how much work authors put into their books and I hate giving that work less than three stars, let alone three stars itself. I definitely want to work more on being honest with my ratings without bashing books either.

Wonderful post, Jillian! I agree with so many of these tips. I agree that putting your personality into your blog posts really does help you have more fun and create better content. I am so used to writing very isolated, unbiased and formal papers for school that writing in a very informal and relaxed style on my blog while still retaining the analytical angle that I love has been very freeing. I also agree that keeping the pressure off blogging is also key to maintaining a great blog and having fun. We have more than enough pressure in other areas of our lives, so we should keep blogging pressure free.

Have fun with the school newspaper! I did the school newspaper before, too, and I loved being able to write articles for it. A four month vacation? I have a two and a half month summer vacation... :( Summer's actually going by really fast and I don't know how much I'm looking forward to school because it can get so stressful. Still, I'm coming to the realization that maybe the problem is me. I'm determined to be really good with my time management during the school year so that I don't feel as stressed. Anyways, good luck with your classes!

Congratulations, Jillian! I've read Mishma's blog before, and I truly enjoy it even though I don't comment on it as much as I would like to. I can't wait to read your posts over at her blog!

An Ember in the Ashes sounds like a really interesting book, and it's been on my radar for quite a while now. I think what really interests me about these characters is that the scholars were forced to be slaves. that's something that I would love to read about. The romance also sounds like it was written just as I like it. I'm not a fan of romance blatantly thrown in a book and put at the forefront just because, but I will take subtle romance that serves a purpose for the overall story.

Welp. I guess Cinder is the equivalent of Cinderella for a reason. I agree that she is graceful, kind and defiant all at the same time, which is probably one of my favorite combination of traits for a female character. Strong, but nice is good. Also, that last gif is making me dizzy. It's pretty, though. :D

These features sound great, Jillian! Current Obsessions sounds like it would be interesting to read because as much as all of us readers love books, we also have other things that we love to do. The Bookish Spotlight feature also sounds great because there are so many underrated books out there. Self published books get such a bad rap, but in reality, there are some out there that are absolutely stellar. One series that comes to mind is The Tales of Goldstone Wood. The author started out traditionally published, but recently switched over to self publishing. Oh, and I'm very excited about your writing feature since I'm a writer myself.

Yay for owning a hardcover copy of Cress! Scarlet is my favorite book in the series, but I loved Cress as well. Both Cress and Thorne are such charming characters, and they are so loveable!

It sounds like you had a wonderful experience at BEA, Val! I would love to meet authors and get a ton of books if I ever go to BEA ( I SHALL SOMEDAY, I PROMISE MYSELF), but I think the most exciting thing for me would be meeting fellow bloggers. It would be such a nice experience to finally meet all of the book bloggers in person.

Wow, Jillian! 3.6K monthly pageviews is awesome! It's great that you've started writing again, and I so wish you good luck with that. In June I plan to spend the whole month plotting a fairytale retelling that I'll be writing, and maybe even researching for a historical fiction book if I have the time. It's going to be pretty busy, but writing is always fun! How was Every Soul a Star? I'm a huge fan of Wendy Mass and that book looks so good.
