I love to have fun. I also love Pigs in Space, so this post was a win/win. Great thoughts!

Interesting post. I think online writing groups can be helpful when everyone's expectations are the same. I don't post work for critique, (though I sometimes participate for fun/practice), but I do email work to two other writers whom I've never met in person, and belong to a "real-life" writing group. I think people are more apt to give their honest opinions when they are shielded from the eyes of the entire world/internet.

Glad you found a group that worked for you!

I also started out writing poetry, and pretty angsty short stories, too. In the end, the goofy personality of my childhood prevailed. And never left.

You and I seem to have a similar talent for drawing trucks :). Interesting discussion!

Just read through all of your reviews...isn't it fabulous how there really is a book (and hopefully many, MANY books) out there for everyone?

I find world-building difficult, and I write (mostly) contemporary humor! The "worlds" (as you discussed in part I) are of their culture, their background, their hobbies and groups...it still often takes a bit of research which is not actually my favorite thing to do in the world. That would be sitting. And eating chocolate. While someone rubs my feet.

Great breakdown here, Miriam!

I sooo get this. I hand my husband sealed envelopes containing phrases I know he's going to say after he says them. It's my new favorite thing.

I'm loving these process posts, Roni! I'm more like Elana in writing style, but if I was being truthful, I would say that I wished I could be more of a planning, linear writer.

This sounds a lot like what I do. There's quite a bit of cutting and pasting and pieces around involved. That said, I have started to jot down something that may be viewed as a distant cousin to an outline for my current WIP. Thanks for sharing~

Thanks for sharing this -- definitely interesting to see how the query changed and improved. The storyline sounds great, too!
