Good post Catarina. We think sometimes we can push forward with only the basic sustenance. Exercise is important, but so is being positive, and not surrounding yourself with negative influences. Good point about all things natural feeding your soul. I would add art to that list - theres' usually some art form that a person enjoys. Giving yourself time for yourself whether that's to sit and meditate, exercise or watch your fav. tv show is also really important. Good thoughts for the New Year.

Being over enamored with their vision is a perceptive comment on leadership. We want leaders to have vision but it can be at the expense of not seeing what's actually going on. And of course arrogance is a common one too. Leaders must always be open to feedback and be prepared to change when it's appropriate. It's not easy being a leader.

I think this is probably one of the key things that have made Apple so successful - at least I think there has in the past been a culture of fostering employees to be innovative. You can hire good people but if you don't have an avenue or forum to open up and take a chance on bringing ideas forward then you've lost a lot of potential as well as commitment , loyalty etc. Your website is looking great BTW.

Not sure I'd hold China up as a shining example of how to treat ones citizens, but I definitely think that inequality is a threat to growth & stability. The cost of Living is so expensive in San francisco now, that people in restaurants & cafes are having difficulty finding staff who will work for $15 -20 because no-one in that wage category can afford to live in the city. Many have moved across the SF Bay Bridge to the east bay which is a little cheaper, or gone further afield. Having extremes of income is never going to be a good thing.

Interesting post Catarina - it is difficult to get a clear picture sometimes of women's roles in middle Eastern countries, especially when there's a regime change. However, as this isn't the case in SA, it seems as if they really have moved into the 21st century, at least in some respects. very surprised women can have their own businesses as that has real potential for giving financial independance

Good to see another enterprising Brit with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background! Businesses need to move with the times but it's always scary to make major policy shifts. But the example Kate uses of consolidating apps, is really just common sense akin to finding the best places to advertise and sticking with those rather than spreading your ad. budget too thin in areas that have little return. Good to "see" you again Catarina:-)

Natural leadership is a rare find, but I completely agree that it's not really sought after. Business in general tends to be conservative, and like many things now, there's an emphasis on ticking boxes. So CV's might be rigid about having an MBA, when in fact experience could be more valuable. That said, it's tough to discover a natural leader in an interview. Intuition can only go so far. BTW Catarina, I had a hard time reading the top left of the post as the floating share button covers part of the text. A little frustrating I have to confess. But enjoyable post none the less:-)

I feel really torn about this shift in the workforce, not in terms of leveraging my own skills, but rather how it effects peoples lives. Having been self-employed for much of my work life, Im excited that so many more people get too have more choice and flexibility around their work situation. But that also comes at a price e.g. no health benefits, no regular paycheque etc. etc. Some people are suited for that kind of life, but it's not for everyone. I wonder whether its an economic change that has been forced upon the business world at the benefit of larger corporations, and that the benefits dont nec. trickle down. Good post Catarina. Thanks

Hackers are the scourge of the earth - But I find it hard to believe that the US government - well any of the western governments for that matter, do not have the resources available to stop hackers. It's ludicrous that we should leave ourself and our security to the hands of hackers. They seem a particularly unscrupulous lot.

If you have a lawn, which many people here avoid because of the drought, then its essential to get a decent mower. even then it's SO much work if the lawn is any size. Glad you found one you like.
