I only generalize Gen Ys because they are the ones coming into the workforce today. They are the generation (the whole generation) that is being targeted at the moment. <description>Thanks for your comment!  I completely agree that now people are the greatest assets rather than tools. But also, the technology is progressing so quickly and it IS the Millennials who know how to use this new technology best - so therefore they are great assets and if managers don&amp;#039;t tend to their need I don&amp;#039;t think it&amp;#039;s something they can just do themselves. Millennials are NEEDED in the workforce. We can do things that many Gen Xers and Boomers can&amp;#039;t do (particularly with technology). </description>

<description>Thanks Rochelle, I can agree with you that if I put my time and hard work into something it is nice to be compensated for. Money will always be a factor in everyones life because we need money to acquire our basic needs.   Quiet recognition is still recognition. Some people don&amp;#039;t like to be publicly recognized and that is very respectable! In my mind, we gain so much from any kind of feedback or recognition, publicly or quietly.   And we all know what it&amp;#039;s like to pay our dues.... and i agree with you, there is a time when you just need to put your foot down.  </description>

It&amp;#039;s NOT just about &amp;#039;being on Twitter&amp;#039; - it&amp;#039;s about the background of what twitter does and what facebook does for all of us? We like to use social networks because it keeps us connected to those we can&amp;#039;t talk to all the time or see everyday. It keeps our opportunities open and our connections broad.   I can say that if someone told me I was locked into a job for 20 years and then I could retire I would not be satisfied! With times changing as fast as they are, there is too much uncertainty of the future to make plans for the next few decades.     </description>

<description>Thanks for the comment Ryan,  Maybe these trends are not unique to the Gen Ys, but we are the driving force behind these distinctive changes that are happening in the workplace.   Whether it&amp;rsquo;s a psychographic or a demographic, we make up 50% of the workplace, and the proportion is constantly growing. They are motivated by different things and acknowledging that benefits everyone. Wouldn&amp;rsquo;t you want to make the dominant group in any environment happy?  And maybe the people who accept this will be early to jump on the boat but when has ever hurt anyone?   </description>

<description>Thanks Erin!   Passion is a huge motivator for me as well! I have been extremely lucky to begin my career at a startup company where people understand these ideas and understand that performance reviews don&amp;#039;t work. I meet with my coaches once every two weeks and I couldn&amp;#039;t imagine it any other way. I learn so much from the people I work with and my skills have improved drastically from all of the feedback that i receive.  It makes this environment enjoyable for me to work in.   </description>

<description>Thanks subtlenuances! I agree.  I have heard this from many people and began to reflect on what I wanted out of a job and a good boss/manager is one of my top priorities as well. When I am talking about coaching, it does not mean micromanaging. In fact, an ideal coach should have trust in you and not feel the need to manage you on a daily basis but check in with you on a weekly or biweekly basis and mentor you on anything you need help with.  </description>
