If I jailbroke my iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) on iOS 5 with Snowbreeze, can I just run this new version of Redsn0w on top of it? Also, I'm desperately waiting for an iBooks fix for jailbroken iOS 5. Any news on when this will be available? Thanks in advance.

Download iOS 5 for your iPhone 4 . After that, download either Redsn0w or Snowbreeze (depending on what computer you're using) to make a custom ipsw. Then restore to the custom iOS 5 ipsw file thorugh iTunes (hold shift and press restore to find the custom ipsw)

You can upgrade to iOS 5 and jailbreak your iPhone 4 using Redsnow (for Mac) or SnowBreeze (for Windows). Remember that it will be a tethered jailbreak.

I'm guessing your 3GS is a new bootrom model and as of now, there is no unthetered jailbreak for it. Word has it that it should be released very soon though

Use redsn0w for Mac or Snowbreeze for Windows. These jailbreak tools won't upgrade your baseband, they will preserve it. Remember, if your 3GS is new bootrom, then you''ll have a tethered jailbreak

With a tethered jailbreak, you always need to reboot with Redsn0w or else your iPhone wont boot. If this seems like an inconvenience - which it is - I suggest you wait for an untethered jailbreak, which will come out very soon.

I don't know if it might have to do with your 3GS being a new bootrom. Just a wild guess....

Word is that everyone is having the same problems. Some say it might have to do with the high demand for iOS 5 - not to mention iPhone 4S - and that the servers are backed up. I hope it starts working ASAP!

First download iOS 5 for iPhone 3GS. Since you're a windows user, download the latest version of Snowbreeze. Open snowbreeze and browse for the iOS 5 ipsw. Snowbreeze will make a custom ipsw that will not upgrade your baseband. Once that's done, it will make you put your iPhone in DFU mode. Then open iTunes (make sure you have 10.5 downloaded) and it will detect your iPhone in recovery mode. Press and hold SHIFT and click on restore, then you will have to look for the custom ipsw. file that snowbreeze made (it'll be on your desktop). Click on that and let iTunes do the rest. Once your iPhone is jailbroken on iOS 5, go to Cydia and download the latest Ultrasn0w and your iPhone will be unlocked. NOTE: If you get an 1600 error while trying to restore your 3GS, try restarting your computer; it worked for me. Also, if you use iBooks (like me), be aware that it won't work on jailbroken iOS 5. A fix is on the way supposedly. I would like to put up some links to help you out (visually) but I don't think the moderators on this site permit it.

I think it might have something to do with your hosts. Google the 3194 error and I'm sure you'll find a solution. I had a 1600 error and I restarted my computer and that worked for me. Give that a try and see if it helps.

1: I don't think it will matter what jailbreak tool you use. I have jailbroken my iPhone with various jailbreaking tools and nothing has happened so far. I used snowbreeze to jailbreak my 3GS on iOS 5 and it works. My 3GS is old bootrom also and I have an untethered jailbreak. 2: Back up your iPhone via iTunes. Remember to download the latest iTunes (10.5). When you restore, it will ask you if you'd like to set up a new phone or load up a previous back up. Load your last back up and all your settings, notes, etc will be there. 3: If i'm not mistaken, I think that has to do with your sim card. I could be wrong though. Either way just back up your iPhone.

I'm in South America for a couple of weeks so I'm using a carrier called Movistar. 1st: I created a custom ipsw iOS 5 file using Snowbreeze. 2nd: After that I put my iPhone in DFU mode (Snowbreeze guides you on how to do it) 3rd: I opened iTunes and it discovered my iPhone in recovery mode. I held the shift key down while pressing the restore button. Then you have to located the custom ipsw that Snowbreeze made (it'll be on your desktop) 4th: After iTunes restored my iPhone to the custom ipsw file, I went to cydia and downloaded the latest Ultrasn0w. And that was it really. Note: I kept getting an "1600 error" on iTunes while I tried to restore. I fixed this by restarting the computer. Also make sure you have the latest iTunes downloaded (10.5)
