SpouseBUZZ.com : Money Nightmare: Commissary Changes and You

My husband and I have shopped at commissaries for over 35 years--we were active duty 28 years and now retired. I can't imagine shopping anywhere else! When I visit my grown children and shop at the stores near them, the prices are overwhelming. Look, we are ALL spoiled in America by the choices we have. Stores upon stores are loaded with food---something beyond the imagination of billions of the world's population. So either way, I will be grateful for wherever I go shopping. But as lifelong travelers in the military, we always felt at home on the base, and appreciated the privileges that went with having a military ID. As others have mentioned, grocery prices in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, San Diego, and the DC area are excessively high. With all the handouts that are passed on to civilians, shouldn't there still be some perks for serving our country's highest call?

SpouseBUZZ.com : Plan to Close Stateside Commissaries Coming Soon

We've been shopping at the commissaries for 30 years. Everytime I walk down the aisle, I thank the Lord for all the choices, provision, and abundance we have--not only in the commissary, but in our country. I would be saddened and affected greatly by any commissary closings, but will choose to be thankful for the amazing amount of food we have in every corner of America.

Our church in Ottawa, Ontario should come with a GPS in the bulletin because we've moved so much. Five location in 5 years, and currently meeting on Saturday nites in the party-hardy nightclub area! Growing exponentially, praise God!!

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : At least faith.

Thanks for this transparent post! I don't want to be an 'at least' Christian, ever! And some other 'war stats' show that more deaths happen on the battlefield during the first and last month of a deployment. What's that say? That we must be ready for those 'big' battles by getting in the Word right away! And then, not grow confident, lazy or weary in our own strength as we press on..."So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall." I Cor. 10:12

God is altogether GOOD! Without His awesome goodness and grace, I wouldn't be here, my marriage would be over, my family would be totally messed up, two grandchildren would not even be, and the honour of being able to servie Him would be literally unheard of! What a mighty God we serve!!!

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Wondering why God makes life impossible sometimes.

Wow! Thank you for the true word. The impossible really does amplify God's glory. Recently I saw this true as a friend (Todd) of a friend (Josh) died of cancer. In the two years Todd battled with an impossible cancer, he displayed unshakeable faith in his loving Lord. Josh, who walked with him though this valley, was not so sure. Yet, as Josh observed the light of the Lord shine through Todd, his faith was restored. Not only that, over 16,000 people learned of Todd through Josh on Facebook. And now, Josh and his cousin, George Alden, have written a song called "I Believe Again" (to help Todd's family)....all because, in God's economy, the impossible proved to be a gift. And the Lord was, and is, glorified. Tough truth. But true nonetheless. Thank you again, Jon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUOEYWCsvf4

"We don’t get a roadmap, we get a relationship." THANK YOU!!! Even with 20+ military moves, 34 years of marriage by God's grace, and as many years with the Lord, my husband and I still want that Button!! We want a roadmap, but He gave us a compass instead--His Word!! Thank you for this awesome reminder! PS. We don't have a box-spring. :-)

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Becoming an expert on Africa after a 6-day mission trip.

LOL! This is one I've been waiting for!! As a career military family, we *lived* a lot of places around the world for 2-4 years at a time. It is frustrating to hear even vacationers to a foreign country think they've got the place wired. Equally trying was, as a full-time missionary in Ukraine, my daughter and team would host the visiting youth from the States. Though many of the kids had a heart to serve the Lord, there were always those who saw mission trips as a notch on their belt, and a tale for the future. Thankfully, the Lord works all things together for good, so I believe even the self-focused kids learned a thing or two about service and thankfulness...without weaving it into a powerpoint presentation

Please pray for my mom, who just found out her kidneys are malfunctioning. It could be serious..or not. Praying for not. Also, our Muslim landlord just found out his wife has cancer, and it's very far along. He asked us to pray for her. May the Lord be glorified, and draw them both to Jesus through this awful battle. Thank you, Jon, for this opportunity to pray and be prayed for!

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : The wild difference between a Mother's Day sermon and a Father's Day sermon.

Thank you for the exposee!! My husband and I have noted this for years, to the point where neither of us want to go to church on Father's Day! Men get a double-whammy, because they're attacked on Mother's Day AND Father's Day. Ok, maybe fathers need some gritty challenges, but so do moms. And moms need encouragment, but so do dads. I can say this as a wife, a mom, and now, a grandma (yeeks). Thankfully, this year, our pastor focused on our need to seek God as our Father. Let's have another piece of That!
