If there was a documented history of someone doing something they loved, without the fame and exposure, and then they were given the opportunity to do it on a grander scale, I wouldn't care if they had 2 kids by their cousin and never learned to read. Bethenny Frankel is an example of this I think. (Although yes, she can read) She came on the show with a very clear goal of marketing herself as a diet and health food chef (cook, if you're Kelly). And look at all the success she's received. I'm happy for her.

But as far as I can tell this seems like one of those "I've always wanted to do this" moments. I hope we all get those . But are you willing o extend this hope to say member of the Real House Wives franchise who swear earnestly that they have always wanted to be pop singers? Hugh Laurie is getting a pass because we consider him smart and he has a certain wit that appeals to the elite.

Why is it arrogant? Not to make a post about Hugh Laurie into something Super Serious, but I don't really understand why it's considered arrogant for someone to do something he obviously admires and enjoys. Is it because he's a celebrity? So he put an album out. He's got the money and connections do to so, good for him. If he came out saying "Here is the be all end all definitive New Orleans blues album" then it makes sense to deride him. But as far as I can tell this seems like one of those "I've always wanted to do this" moments. I hope we all get those.

What hate? There is no doubt that Hugh is a very talented actor and Comedian but taking on blues (New Orleans blues for that matter) is highly ambitious if not borderline arrogant. Yes, he captured the technique and the musicality of the genre but he lacks the soul. And that is worse

Can't believe all this Hugh hatin'! The man has been playing music his whole life, started out doing a variety show (Fry and Laurie) that had a lot of musical elements. Of course he's not the next great blues artist, but he's certainly not in the same vein of celebrity-turned-musician as say, Paris Hilton. #Ilovehughlauriesomuch
