QOTD? How bad will things have to get for you to stop flying? I'm asking in reaction to some friends of ours asking when we would come visit them this year. Our friends, not dumb people, were light hearted in tone, and in recent years we've made an effort to see each other once a year with them coming here or us going there (requires a domestic plane flight), but it felt like they were deliberately ignoring reality, or perhaps they are so steeped in privilege that they don't see what's happening all around us as our problem, too. I pointed out that as the only Black person in this convo, the prospect of flying now that ugly bags of frozen water will be roaming the airports made an already difficult activity downright dangerous. I explained that physically I would probably not survive detention if it went on for more than a week or two, and that while I would love to travel to see people, my life is worth more than that. They got quiet for a moment, but then went back to making snarky asides about the government, not really acknowledging what I said and suggesting alternative travel plans like renting RVs where we could meet in the middle someplace. I did a lot of cross country travel by car and no, I'd rather not be pulling up in random sundown towns for my vacation. I guess what I'm wondering is, does everyone think these horrors aren't ever going to happen to them? For six months after 9/11 I was yanked out of every line before every flight I took for an extra bag search. I have one of the most vanilla names ever, but that didn't matter. So perhaps I'm biased due to trauma, or overly cautious (if that's possible nowadays). What say all of you - how do you feel about flying right now?

Welp, something sweet. The kids had to dress up as celebrities today for school. Mini dressed up as Charles Leclerc (race car driver) and his girl friend dressed up as Taylor Swift. While waiting for pick up, they sat next to each other and rested their heads on each other’s shoulders.

Say hi to Max! He's my short term foster from a property that reached out for help after they had 18 dogs. Rescues took all the dogs and will return two adults after they are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and chipped. Max will be heading to the 10 week Paws for Redemption program at a prison near town. He's practically perfect in every way. No accidents since he arrived last night and playing with all my pups.
