It's very hard to know if Trump has any control or not. If he has a plan he eventually hopes to put through consistent with his comments on foreign policy during the election campaign or has abandoned them, or never meant them, or finds himself buried in the constant strife of the endless investigations. A few weeks ago he said he was leaving the conduct of wars to his generals; "they know what they're doing better than I do" or words to that effect. This isn't an opinion, but it is possible that what he is doing is giving them enough rope to hang themselves. An article in Fars news and a parallel one in RT indicates that US has backed away from keeping the syrian army away from al Tanf and allowed them to occupy and secure the borders in the area with Jordan and Iraq in the area after quiet discussions with Lavrov. That's a humiliating backdown for the military, but it was probably that or else. And else ultimately requires Trump's OK to all out war with Russia and I don't think that will be forthcoming. The ISIS seem to be getting an escape route out of Raqqa toward Deir Ezzur negotiated by the FSA and US. Perhaps some of the elete and assets that need to be recovered are going to bypass Deir Ezzur and head through the empty desert toward al Tanf , and that's the reason for the US base there. D J S

You cant say that supplying ISIS with weapons on convoys for six years is some sort of an accident.
