KEEP YOUR RELIGION OUT OF MY GOVERNMENT ! (USA contributor) But if I claim to be a Christian, how can I say that? Well, when I say that I am a ‘Christian’, I am saying that I ascribe to, believe in, and strive to follow Christian VALUES. However, I think that the legend of Christ is only possibly based on the existence of a real person, or maybe an amalgamation of real persons and events; all of this likely in rejection of, and rebellion against, the murderous oppression and subjugation of common people at the time. I’m not saying Christ was necessarily an ‘invention’, mind you, but more likely a corporeal manifestation of man’s budding maturity and desire to throw off the yoke of barbarism and grow as a species. Mankind’s intellectual, emotional, and empathic puberty. I very much respect the concept of ‘Faith’ though. This country, remember, was formed on the notion that your Faith is yours alone to choose. I, and many of my friends, signed government contracts to defend everyone’s right to choose their own Faith. And we all know of someone who died for them. However… I abhor and reject the notion of organized ‘Religion’, which I recognize as nothing other than a vehicle for the control and exploitation of the masses. And, since our own government seems to be morphing ever further into an organization with the same intent, the notion of combining the two is probably the scariest idea I’ve ever contemplated.

There are only two possibilities. 1) all religions are wrong or 2) all religions are wrong except one. The history of humanity is dominated by encouraging over breeding, mayhem, wars, abuse of humans all in the name of trying to prove that the religion you have been raised with is the "one".

I totally agree with you. I also believe in Christ's message of love but not his deity and in many of the theology tenets of the bible but not that it is in any way divine. I have written a book with similar conclusions as you about organized religion. I feel the future for churches will be to serve as 'spiritual centers' for people to use when they want to meditate or pray on their own... no services, no leaders, no connection with other centers. Just because the Constitution does not name Christianity within it does not mean that it was not founded upon Christian principles. That’s a silly argument. I can write a piece that is influenced by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, founded on the principles of Romeo and Juliet, yet never once mention Romeo and Juliet within my piece. That’s obvious. But the fact the most of the Founding Fathers who constructed the Constitution were Christian clearly suggests that it was founded on Christian principles.

The first Christian Churches were more like communes. Where the people had all things common. What is called Christian today is an abomination. This c hurch and State is so far removed from the doctrine and Gospel of Jesus and the following Apostles teachings, it so laughable. I know what I'm saying. And I am willing to discuss my beliefs with any lay member or accredited theologian, Bible scholar etc.. By the way Why do people even think they need a degree in advanced Bible study ? Jesus was a carpenter's son, Peter was a fisherman, etc.. Jesus straight up said unless you become as a child and be converted you a lost duck. Why complicate matters with your silly Hebrew Greek and Latin interpretations. Why try to make a book that anyone who has a 10th grade education level can read, easier to read ? Complete nonsense. Just do the "first works" and you will increase your understanding when God allows it. Wow it amazes me how simplistic the Gospel is. But oh no we gotta mess with it. There are 3 count them 3 passages containing 9 scriptures for anyone who wants to become a Christian must know and obey. Here they are; Matthew 28:19, John 3:1-7, Acts 2:38 DONE. Wow Disgusting bunch of ? It's no wonder the unbelievers remain unconvinced ! Stupid churches on every corner fighting over even stupider man made doctrines. Give the secular society a break ! What is being done with mandatory vaccinations in this country is akin to fascism. And I'm sad to see that so many Dems are at the helm. I feel betrayed and threatened. I learned that my children were adversely affected in 1988, their injuries never reported to us or to the federal government through the NCVIA. Democrats who idealize mainstream doctors being capable of diagnosing vaccine injuries are deceiving themselves as and the public. They have not reported injuries for over 30 years. Somebody better protect would-be victims by conducting an ACTUAL investigation into this issue. Children's overall organ health is threatened on a large scale. And the cover ups have been going on since Reagan. We are the sickest we have ever been. If what we're doing were working, medical "errors' would not be the #3 killer. And our children would not be mysteriously dying, becoming brain injured, or developing autism and pain syndromes at an alarming rate. People who have been injured and know it have relied on their religious rights to keep their families safe. This is no different than what happened to the Jewish people during the Nazi regime. Measles are not deadly. Nor have they ever been serious "diseases." Dems are being hoodwinked. And we thought it could not happen here. Incredible blindness and disregard for human suffering! For shame!

Atheism is not a religion. Nor is scoence, another canard thrown out to try to deflate the power of the scientiglfic method. This is typical in many arguments, if you cant defeat with rational argument then discount or coopt the other by making false equivalences. The funny thing is is that people who say science is religion or atheism is religion inadevertetly are showing that they too recognize the power of true evidence with rayional analysis but since they cannot even begin to come close to that standard they lie and try to drag science and scientists inyo the muck of airy illogical sentiments and superstition. All right, I agree, EXCEPT, why would anyone consider atheism a religion? There is no organization of atheists that get together regularly and talk about how the rest of humanity should be badgered into becoming atheist. We don't try to convince people to become atheists. We don't care what you believe if you would all just keep it to yourselves! Stay out of other people's lives and rights and governments! There are not buildings on every corner where atheist go to congratulate each other on being brainwashed. There are no wars with atheist armies trying to kill or convert everyone they come across. Some of us are murdering bastards, and some of us are more caring and compassionate than most "religious" people. By far. Atheists don't do what is right and good because they are betting on some future reward. They do it because we evolved as social animals and we need to cooperate with one another to survive. Because we were BORN with empathy and compassion to that end. And what you consider "obnoxious" behavior from atheists is 99% of the time atheists finally pushing back against religion trying to take over the government and cram their insanity down everyone else's throat on fear of death. Atheists don't believe in gods. Period. Some may believe in fairies or ghosts or the "deep state" of liberals, but we just don't believe that anyone is more responsible for us and our actions than ourselves. I can't speak for all atheists, of course. Because we don't gather to talk about how stupid religious people are and how easily led to do horrific things. We just see them doing those things and declaring it is to please their god. We are sick of religious people getting their panties in a wad because we are finally calling them on all of the privilege and benefits they deny others and they are afraid of playing on a level field. Religion is a dictatorship. I don't care if you are a christian. But I thought you were smarter than calling atheism a religion. Just keep your "christianity" out of secular government and we will all be good. But christians and muslims and jews and all the rest just can't do that, can they. Because they are each so special, knowing they are right. And all others are just less than them. Hell, "atheist" is not even capitalized!

I agree with everything written in this excellent article except for one BIG thing. Religion is partially responsible for the over-population problem and therefore global warming, and it continues to encourage people to over-breed. It does this on the foundation of delusions and lies. I wouldn't let religion off so lightly.

one of the wisest posts i have yet to read on line. that is why the red road is so important. it is bsed on the basic tenet of doing good towards others and sharing what ever we have with those that have nothing. it is not a religion, it is a way of thinking and acting towards others and setting high goals towards how we treat our fellow humans , ourselves, and the others that share the same space on this planet. ty for sharing.

While the majority of religious believers are good and sincere in their beliefs, the religious institutions are firmly embedded with the ruling elites in every religious country. Church/state mutual back-scratching which dates back to Emperor Constantine. Humanity will be much better served when the majority accept the fact the Bible is based on a fictional 6,000 year-old Earth where Neanderthals never existed. In the real world, most people have some Neanderthal DNA because our human ancestors mated with Neanderthals. But religion still thrives because its very real attributes for its many powerful, wealthy vested interests i.e. mega cash-cow and powerful tool of political control. Plus, the fact no evidence is required by believers to support religious claims. Tragic for truth, facts, justice, peace, humanity.
