A great article! However, we need to use this article as a source, thus every statement must be referenced as would a university paper.
Example: "He rejected traditional Christian beliefs such as the deity of Christ and his resurrection from the dead." should be followed by a number and a reference!
Otherwise these are all just 'sayings' and opinions, and can be trashed by the religionists.

For a "historian" you MUST get the facts straight. This whole article is based on the premise that TJ called on the separation of church and state, which is patently false. "Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State." i couldnt care less what any founding fathers said---they were demagogues, practical politicians, first fighting a war and then establishing a nation. jefferson was deist, but said #created equal#, and #endowed by their creator#---cynically, as machiavelli, getting the job done. and cancelling divine right of kings by #all men are created equal#---which divine right of kings metternich successfully kept throughout austrian empire another hundred years. politicians must play the cards dealt. and jefferson said future generations must decide---e g, altho he tried and failed to get slavery outlawed he expected it to be dumped eventually. the problem is not religion, it is authoritarianism---immature folks require staying 4 years old and an authority who is a perfect father...to such people the constitution is a bible, the founding fathers apostles and usa a crypto-theocracy.
