"To divert to a wrong end or purpose" is the definition of a perversion. The church is a perversion of Spirituality and therefore it's priests are perverts. It's perverted in the very idea of requiring clergy to remain celibate in service of their god. Everything it does is a perversion. I doubt it gained this power from only humans, it feels like it was put in place as a manipulation to humanity, a mechanism of fear based control on Earth, that's what it's been for centuries, a means of fear based control. It should be eradicated like the plague it is, the same way they've eradicated native peoples.

The sad thing is that while they played a large role in the Holocaust (because 40% of Nazi Germany was Catholic), Protestants played an even larger role, with 54% of German citizens self-identifying that way- according to the official German census in 1939. (And 3.5% were "Beleivers in God", leaving only 1.5% atheist/agnostic/Free-Thinker, and 1% "other".) Both Catholic and Protestant churches nowadays like to claim that Hitler was a pagan or animist, Deist, or occultist. He was Catholic, and said in 1941 "I am now as before a Catholic and will always remain so." His religion isn't as important as those who lived in Germany and populated the SS, though. Without their complicity, he would have been just another homeless guy wandering the streets. (That was what he was doing when Einstein wrote Special Relativity.
