If you did not wish to be berated and chastised by the world for posting a blog that can be construed as giving men tips to be abusive, then you should be extremely careful with your words. If the headline of your blog was titled " how to be a loving and compassionate partner" and changed a few words herr and there, not only would you have come across as a gentle christian, you would not have been seen as biased against women or same-sex couples. I for one, see the misunderstanding. However, most are peeved that you came off as a male aggressor for an abusive relationship and not that it only refers to women. Well ok, so does this work for women and women? Or does it go for men and men, too? Do not get me started on the bible states this, the bible states that. Because The Book also does Not state how many gods there are. Just not put any before Him. Excuse me, but why should the Entire world listen to the old testament when most of us are not Egyptian or jewish? Isreali even. I'm irish. And the Good Lord said "do not forsake the beliefs of your forefathers." Then why is it that druids and gypsies around the world are killed, even today, for practicing said scripture? If God gave us free will, then I have the free will to say this entire thing is a bunch of horse pucky and killed some of my brain cells from the lack consideration (being so devout you should have known better than to post such a title) and the drama it's caused.

This sounds very much like the way the Taliban treat women, only using nicer words. The only way a home should be run is with equality. I will not "submit" to any man, and if asked, I would be gone in a heartbeat. I am an atheist, however, so religious slavery will never be a problem for me.

You cannot form doctrine from one verse in the Bible. God did not give us free will to abandon it.
If the article was about men terating their wife as he treats the church, then this article missed it’s point.
I know no words of Christ that said manipulate another to get them to follow the Bible.
Further along in the verse it says live ith consideration with your wife and treat her with honor. It is not a right to force submission and control, it is a command to love- patience, kindness, peace, not rude, DOES NOT SEEK ITS OWN INTERESTS.
No greater love has a man, than he lay down his life for another.
Being coerced is not freely choosing.
1 verse. Paul does not say, “Husbands make your wife submit”, He said “Husbands, love your wife like Crist loved us” ie, no judgement or condemnation, only encouragement, protect your wife to your own death. Never, did CHRIST subject the church.
Christians follow Christs example. One cannot use the Bible to create dogma contradictory to Christs vommands and actions.

Cycles of abuse, misused power, exploitive sexuality and violence know no ideological boundary. Because you hear a concept (i.e. submission) you associate with those things does not mean that is how it walks and talks. And just because people who have experienced positive, healthy, respectful, loving and mutual relationships that they understood in terms of "submission one to another" DOES NOT mean there are not many violent and abusive men who turn that language on their victims.

If you do not help people distinguish the two--then you simply apply a reactionary prejudice to find the devil where there is none--and miss the abuser where He is.

The Biblical admonitions for children to obey parents; parents not to exasperate children, husbands to love wives, and wives submit to husbands is just a breakdown of a simple universal command that precedes those instructions: "Submit to one another."

It has nothing to do with being a king, ruler, dominator, abuser, beater, predator, dehumanizer, etc.

If my husband tried this crap on me he would find his bones out in the Everglades. As by some archaeologist in about a few thousand years. We are a TEAM. We work together. We confer on things together. I dont do anything radical without sharing it with him and talking about it nor does he. This chest beating, troglodytic, knuckledragging "me Tarzan you Jane" crap cloaked in pseudo Christian ritual is a sick joke. A man who needs to dominate has issues no matter what the faith...and a woman who needs this tomfoolery in her life even more so. Im sick of the knuckledraggers who seem to think this is the only way to control things...if you want to live like this, go to Afghanistan, join the Taliban and find a woman who is like this. Otherwise, learn to control yourself and your life will be just fine.

This is an interesting article in that it takes excerpts from the Bible & does not consider the whole. The Bible does instruct women to submit to their husband & also instructs the man to love his wife as Christ loved the Church. It does NOT tell husbands to teach their wives to submit. That is between the woman & God. Nor does it tell the wife to insist that her husband love her properly. That is between the man & God. Nor does it say to submit if your husband loves you enough or love your wife if she is submissive enough. Submission in the Biblical sense is very different from what we think of as submission today. Biblical submission in a marriage is a sign of respect & does not mean the husband has complete control over the wife or should in any way be abusive.

As a Christian man, husband, father I understood SUBMITS..meant to " respectfully submit" of course in any structure there has to be a lead..otherwise caoutchouc conditions will be certain. Also, if we keep reading..which many Christian men do...25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her..many Christian men LOVE their wives and also submit to them...compromise is the key to all successful relations combined with what's best for others, the family unit etc. by the way..did you ladies..men to..you can find NO WHERE in scripture that instruct a woman to love a man...why? You use the word submit. Period. Teach or preach how to value and respect one another. How to be loving and supportive and compromise and work as one. Submit and obey? I am a woman who supports myself, owns my own home and am engaged to someone who is an equal partner. I chose someone I respect, value and love. It sounds like you don't like empowered women because they won't need you and won't be in a position where they have to submit. Wouldn't you rather be cherished and loved by choice?

This is exactly what I went through except he also used to beat the heck out of me as well. The whole work out your marriage no matter what was instilled in my head my whole life so I dealt with it for 14 years. It is not gods law to hurt others and that is what it was doing. To force or make somebody submit to you and hurt their light is abuse. You should never encourage that. This teaching breaks my heart to know that what I went through was and is encouraged.

It's appalling, isn't it, to see these attitudes and then present the cycle of abuse for comparison. It's shocking because when power and control are presented as love and compassion, then abuse is disguised as love and compassion. That passage that commands women to submit goes on to command men to submit to their wives as Christ died for the Church. Somehow that portion of the passage gets left out or forgotten about.
