Jack of Kent

I have no idea if Rice is TabloidTroll, and nor do I really care. However, they both seem to share a lack of basic understanding of libel law. For example, Troll threatens Watson with something being \"actionable\". However, as a mere pseudonym, Troll cannot really sue for libel. As with David Rose, one cannot defame what is, in effect, a fictional character. Rice also readily threatens legal action: \"My lawyers will deal with anything anyone would be foolish enough to print – alleging or otherwise – that I am.\" However, it is difficult to see how Rice could actually say this is defamatory, especially as he is on record as saying: \"I think @tabloidtroll is raising some interesting questions tonight.\" It may be that Tim is incorrect (though on this sort of thing, Tim\'s record rather speaks for itself), but Rice cannot say it defames him to be compared with TabloidTroll. What exactly does Rice find so objectionable about the comparison? What of what TabloidTroll said does Rice wish to disown? So, overall, if Rice is not TabloidTroll then we simply have a case of two ill-informed libel bullies instead of one.

Peter

Excellent piece! I take it that Dennis Rice is the same \"journalist\" that used to work for that august British newspaper, the D. Express, before his promotion (hah!) to the D. Mail - the other excellent example of British journalistic excellence.? Ah, yes. I thought as much. I take it that his leaving the Mail to start up his freelance career hasn\'t gone as well as he might have wished it to - hence his bitter and sour grapes. By the way, whilst I am tapping away, it will be good to see how that other bastion of British prudery, Scouser Nadine Doris (sic) gets on with her war against Cameron and Gideon. They deserve each other. Keep it up Tim. Bravo!

Andrew Miller

Well done Tim. Having briefly followed the feed, I did find it someonewhat hilarious that he keeps claiming the anonimity is important due to him being a 'mole'. Utterly laughable, as it's clearly apparent he's simply using the account to bully & slander anyone involved in exposing tabloid NI wrong doing. Given the nature of the bullying, it's pretty cowardly behaviour & hard to see how it's anything to be with 'whistlebowling' which any law would look to protect.

If he were Oxbridge, I doubt he'd have retweeted it.

Amiller127

Well done. I have had the pleasure of some charming tweets from the tabloid troll account. They were homophobic, aggressive and threatening, as well as a little elitist. Funny how mouthy some people get when they have the anonymity of the net. If it helps confirm things more, the tabloid man account claims to have been to afghanistan and also claim to come from an Oxbridge education. Does that fit in?

peterjukes

Nice bit of troll hunting. I hold it as a badge of honour that tabloidtroll blocked me. It's always a danger paradox when anonymous posters indulg in ad hominem attacks. If you've concealed your identity, you can't make the identity of others your main target. Poetic justice I say
