The Lizard is a classic Spidey villain, but I'm not impressed with the way he looks in the trailer glimpses. I agree they're trying to go with the angsty teen, Twilight vibe and I don't particularly like it, but on the plus side they're letting him be snarky again. Overall I give it a B, but I'm sure I'll be seeing this in the theatre because I'm a pretty devoted Spider-Fan.

Thor is Marvel's Superman (if you ignore the Sentry) meaning that he's not nearly as interesting as his main villain. So in that regards, the movie was accurate.

I think Thor was so thinly drawn that Loki becomes more present because at least he was a source of conflict, and Joss likes a good villain or anti-hero, so Loki will do. I agree with you that most anything is better than re-releasing in 3D. George Lucas is quickly becoming the monster hunted by the villagers and rightfully so.

I enjoyed the second Hulk much more than the first, I thought they did an ok job with the Abomination and The Hulk (Also setting up The Leader) Thor was more about Loki than Thor, which may or may not have been intentional as Loki is the primary villain in the Avengers movie. Rebooting Spiderman is much better than say Re-releasing the same movies every few years (Now in 3-D!). I'm looking at you Lucas, you money grubbing whore.

Apparently every five years all movie knowledge leaks out our earholes and must be replaced with subtly crafted replicas. It doesn't matter that we sit it in the theater muttering to ourselves, "I Saw This! I Know I Saw This!" This is when they come with the chloroform.

Well, sure, if you're going to reboot so soon that's probably one motivation...but I'm not sure what that means if every five years we need a younger version for already existing movie franchises. Dear god, Michael Bay could decide that Shia La Beouf should be a zygote in an upcoming Transformers reboot.

I'm not familiar with the "you get" and "we get" portions of your statement. Because I'm not impressed by this trailer, I somehow like movies starring Channing Steak N Taters? Nah. The first Iron Man was a wonderful mix of super hero verve coupled with a winning and unique performance by RDJ and great directing by Jon Favreau. Iron Man 2 sucked donkey balls. Too much appeal and pressure resulted in a schlocky script. Both Hulk movies were disasters in their own right. Ed Norton lent some amount of gravitas, but still it fell short. Personally, I feel they haven't found a workable way to introduce that much CGI into the film without it becoming cartoonish, and they know this. How they'll get around this in The Avengers remains to be seen. Thor WAS A HORRIBLE SMASH-FEST! Seriously, that thing was fire and brimstone awful. Hemsworth had little in the way of personality, the effects overblown (Let's smash everything in sight with mah big hammer, forget about character development or a story), seriously there was no discernible story save for the spectacle of it all. Give me a story about Heimdall. starring the non-comic book visage of Idris Elba (heh. Whatever fanboys). He at least brought some charisma and depth to his character. Captain America was entertaining. Not an Iron Man standout in the same vein, but they definitely took notes from the Marvel franchise leader. He had layers, and the era and pacing worked. Yet and still I'm curious if this will all work for The Avengers. I'm cautiously optimistic with Whedon at the helm as writer and director. He has a knack for dialogue and banter that I enjoy. (Firefly and Serenity fan right here! Shiny!) However ScarJo looks as if she may disappoint. Don't misunderstand, I'm a Sci-Fi geek. I adore the modern superhero flick, IF it looks like it will show me something I haven't seen before or isn't treading too closely on already worn territory, or in this case, coming way soon after a huge franchise that saw three blockbusters (even though the third installment was the bastard child of the first two.) and doesn't look like it's going to add too much other than to reboot a flagging franchise, turn Spider-Man into the anti-Tobey Maguire even if it's based on the original comic with some 2012 retooling. That being said, Chronicle (Wallace you're in movies now!) looks awesome, and is next on my supernatural movie list.

It seems that all they’ve really done is make Parker skinnier, more conflicted, and, yes, more than a bit like a douche in dweeb clothing. I believe the big motivation to reboot the franchise was to make everyone younger again. They were practically on their way to the assisted living community in that last Tobey Maguire one.

Gwen Stacy was Peter's girlfriend before MJ I think. The Lizard is a pretty classic Spiderman villain (Dr. Connors or a version of him was in at least 2 of the first 3 Spiderman movies) I see he is using technology to shoot webs instead of having them be organic, which in the very original Spiderman was the case. You get "The Vow" we get The Avengers and a Spiderman remake, stay off the apple cart or you'll upset it.
