Mark

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to comment on how much this has helped me. I've struggled since I got back into bowling with ball speeds over 20 miles an hour. I don't purposely roll it fast, it's just my natural cadence. But the description of the swing arc fit me perfectly because I realized I started with the ball really low in my hands and on approach raised it up higher than my head or at least even with my shoulders! By shortening my approach by moving up as you suggested, and starting with the ball high in front of me my back swing was significantly reduced and I'm now rolling the ball around 15 mph and enjoying a wonderful break even on really wet lanes! Using this as a guideline I feel I now have control over my speed such that I should be able to modify it by adjusting each of these parameters (how far I move up from my approach or how high I hold the ball when I start) to suit the given oil pattern. Excellent write up!

Jessica G

Hi David! We'd be happy to suggest some solutions. How long have you had the ball? How often do you clean it? Are you bowling on different lane conditions? Have you tried making adjustments, as far as where you stand on the approach? Thanks!
David

I bought a new ball and when I got it I could throw it how I normally do and it would hook great , but now I have to slow way down to get it to hook at all . It is getting very frustrating so any help would be appreciated .

Evan

Thanks for these tips. I've been throwing between 19 and 20 mph and looking to get more of a reactive hook. I start all the way back so I'll look to move-up in my approach to see if that helps reduce my speed.

Chris Robinson

Everything that you described was really well explained. If you can give me advice on slowing my ball speed down by taking 7 steps when i approach the line. I have noticed that when my ball hooks the most is when i throw it slower of course. It seems i get more on the ball when i do throw it slower. I try so to slow my ball speed down but its real hard.
