I was spanked as a child also, but it was only in punishment. From what i gather from your post, you father would strike in anger rather than true punishment. you can not let you anger drive your punishment. (I will write more on anger latter) I am in agreement that corporal punishment should only be used when no other punishment works. I have found tha with my oldest all I have to do it threaten to send her to her room. Being away from us is, even if she is still in the same house, is the worst thing we can do to her. Our youngest, 3 yo, is a bit more difficult. She needs a pop on the bopttum from time to time. I hope she grows out of it.
