LADA Life : Dexcom G4 Dead Transmitter

Bigger and more powerful organisations are trying hard, and have been for quite some time. I've spoken in person to my local legislator who said she'd investigate. Have heard nothing back. Others have petitions going. Not much more we can do. We face multiple walls of "NO".

LADA Life : Be Creative, It's Medicine

Lee Ann you inspire people in ways you can't even begin to know! People from near and far. I'm no artist, but through your ideas, I've often found expression and have found I can give things a go when I might lack confidence. I now say, who cares! I am creative for me and I don't care if someone else likes it or not. I think when you get past that bit, and realise that creativity comes in many forms, then you have a road for being expressive. If others like it or get something from it, it's a bonus.

LADA Life : The Paula Deen Thing - Get Your Facts Straight

Forest, I do think you make a very valid point! It's the exact reason that the press has persisted with these myths, and why people who should know better don't. The more famous, the more apparently credible people, publications or TV programs appear to be. Sheeple just follow. On the other hand, what doctor or medical system has the time or money for the education it would really take? And it's a lot! 33 years and I'm still learning! Not everyone is on the internet and not everyone trawls the really good diabetes sites, does research or has the money, time or motivation to do attend private classes. I certainly don't have the time to read what I want to, and more, to understand every single last aspect of diabetes. I don't have the biochemical background to make that chore easier, when I do read something new. Not sure how the issues that Paula Deen will create could be solved. Does anyone?

LADA Life : Incidence of Type 1 Diabetes in Australia

Hi Melitta! Yes, definitely hear what you are saying, but in Australia, anyone who needs insulin must register with the NDSS and state what type they have. It doesn't matter how many are misdiagnosed for my purposes. I just want an accurate number for Type 1 registrants - baseline. Then we can add the 20% who really have LADA or other forms of T1, but are still misdiagnosed (and may remain so). As you know, it was sheer fluke and my avid determination to be tested that saw me highly GAD-65 positive with the original and follow up test. That was 33 years after initial dx and with me being very active on the DOC, and reading everything I can get my hands on. How many aren't active in the diabetes world, and don't have a clue, along with their clueless doctors?

That's hardly news, Andrew! It also took Siri to be much improved since Apple bought Siri in April 2010, before it was ripe for the iPhone 4S, and it will continue to be improved by Apple.

LADA Life : Living Alone

Julie, thanks for your comment. I have said many times that I am in awe of parents who, for their children, take on this disease as if it were their own, when it's so much more unpredictable in kids, and therefore so much more work, both physical and psychological. I get the no-sleep part, but for myself. Sometimes I'm reluctant to turn out the light, contemplating what could go wrong. It's risk... it's all risk, and one you have to be prepared to take to live a semblance of a normal life - no such thing with diabetes, really.

Hi Denise! Glad you found my blog. Sorry you have LADA. It's a very hard question to answer because I don't know what you already know. I'd strongly advise you to head over to www.tudiabetes.org where there are lots more people (over 19,000 of them) that can answer any question you have. I found that I learned more from others, books and the internet than from medical people. Good luck!

Hi Karen.... it's like listing the good things about yourself - not easy and often amusing. Yes, my daughter, faults and all, is an amazing person. I look at her, often chuckling, "THAT came from ME?" Kids surely have to be our "most awesome things"!

Thanks so much for your comment! Oh kids are so cute at 5, aren’t they? I’m patiently waiting for my daughter, to have kids. Not on the horizon at this stage. It’s definitely more difficult as a single parent, but you also don’t have a husband to look out for as well. Pros and cons. Thanks so much for all you do for the DOC!
