77 out of 78 speakers at last night's meeting respectfully stopped speaking when the moderator ( Mayor Appelbaum) told them that there allotted time was up. You , sir, were the only one who continued to speak or more accurately shout after being so advised. Shame on you!

Daily Camera.com: : Boulder police officers Sam Carter, Brent Curnow resign over Mapleton elk shooting - Boulder Daily C

Exactly what training does the Boulder P. D. give it's officers with respect to the ethical and lawful behavior expected of them including behavior that although lawful might give the appearance of impropriety? Could you tell us about that Chief Beckner instead of simply "reacting" to each unfortunate episode after it unfolds.

Daily Camera.com: : Boulder officers heard Carter speak Dec. 26 of plans to kill Mapleton elk - Boulder Daily Camera

Congratulations Minivanmamacita! Of all the comments on this topic you completely get it and articulate it perfectly. While the police chief isn't responsible for any one improper/criminal act of his subordinates he is responsible for the climate/culture that has permitted them to flourish. Simply being reactive as each new event unfolds isn't what leadership is about.

There have been several acts of misconduct/crimes by Boulder police officers reported in the Camera within the past year. It seems that the police Chief is always "reactive" to these incidents. What has he done via training, etc. to be "proactive" in curtailing this behavior. Is it not fair to expect him to be accountable for his department?

I am concerned that the proper tone of what is not acceptable behavior for Boulder police officers is not being set at the Chief's level. Hence, the slew of bad/criminal behavior that we have seen in the past year. At what point is it appropriate to hold him accountable?

You are absolutely right Imaginary friend. Too many outrageous acts over too shortf a period of time in what is a relatively small police force. The tone for ethical , professional and above reproach behavior should be set at the top. Just being reactive is not good enough. It's time for the City Council to search for a replacement at the top.

If the law had predictable teeth, i.e. if you're over the legal limit, no more license in your future and some serious jail time. You're more concerned with the drunk.
Daily Camera.com: : Re-opening of East Boulder Community Center pools, locker rooms postponed to Friday - Boulder Daily

The length of the project and the delays in completing it has meant that the EBRC has been unavailable for over a month. While the center has not been closed that entire time, the lack of locker/shower facilities has rendered it useless to most people who come to exercise. For those of us who live near the EBRC it has been inconvenient to access the other Rec. Centers in town. Parks and Rec. should step up and figure out some way to fairly compensate annual members and others for this lengthy inconvenience!

If a legally sufficient case were made before a judge I could understand issuing a restraining order with respect to council members' homes and employment. But not in the public square, where there is police security at council meetings and a basic right to be heard by elected representatives exists.
