For a school to ban teachers from following the mandates of their religion IS a violation of the constitution. It is the state dictating the way in which an individual may express his or her religious views. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

If a teacher is not TEACHING religion in the school, then wearing a head covering should not be an issue. Next you know, the state will be demanding that Muslim and Jewish teachers order ham sandwiches in the cafeteria so they don't offend the food service workers.

Why does any three year old have to be bused away from home half the day? What can a crowded preschool with an inattentive teacher and 30 other screaming kids offer that mom can't do at home? Let alone a child with special needs who requires one-on-one attention. You don't even have to "homeschool" a child that young - just keep them home and take care of them.

Doesn't seem right to have a song that uses "oh-ree-gun" and "sun" in the same verse.

VA made it SOUND like the big sister wasn't playing by the rules. However, on the contrary, she bent over backwards to do every single thing VA DHS and OR DHS asked of her, even when they went against some of her own parenting instincts. Ms. Johnston has been meticulous about playing by the rules, going by the book, filing all the papers, etc. However, she has consistently been stonewalled by the VA legal system at every turn. Check out the family's website for more information than VA DHS would like you to have. http://theystayhome.org/

It wasn't Johnston who reported how the girl was taken kicking and screaming from her classroom in front of her traumatized and alarmed friends. It was the teacher who reported it. The teacher WAS there.

The kids aren't being sent back the abusive parents - they are being sent to separate foster homes in Virginia, with people they've never met, while the parents get a chance to attend rehab and decide if they want the kids back. In the two years the kids have been gone, the parents have not attended court-ordered rehab. The VA judge thinks that having the kids nearby will provide more incentive. This is plain and simply a case of using the poor kids as pawns without any regard to their feelings or security or status as human beings. And if the parents ever DO get them back, what they'll be getting is two traumatized, angry, desperate little kids who will need to be nurtured back to some sort of stability - not exactly a good job for recovering addicts and abusers.
