World In Conversation : How has your opinion changed on illegal immigration?- 119 Blog

sort of have mixed emotions about this topic. When the topic of illegal immigration comes up I don’t think people stop to comprehend the entire situation. I think you have to look at it from both angles. The angle people don’t really look at is the angle of the immigrants. You have to think about how they feel. They obviously want to live a better life because the conditions in their country are unbearable to them. However, there are some immigrants that have bad intentions such as smuggling drugs so you can still understand where the US is coming from as far as that is concerned.

World In Conversation : After this class, how do you think about terrorism?- 119 Blog

Before this lecture I thought that terrorism shouldn’t be supported and after the lecture and after the lecture I still believe that terrorism shouldn’t be supported. Nothing that I watched during the course of that lecture could make me change my mind. I really don’t believe that what terrorist do they do because it’s what they believe. Unfortunately that is the case, and it will continue, and nothing can be done to stop it. During the course of the past decade, terrorism has spread. No doubt about it. From the attacks on the world trade to the bombings in Spain, those were signs of them lurking laying in wait. When it comes to terrorism, anything happened, and necessary precautions have to be taken to make sure that another attack shouldn’t happen. When one of the videos was playing I noticed people holding up signs displaying violent messages about other religions. I don’t think that is right. You should respect somebody’s choice of religion. If that it was they believe in then so be it. Religion has always been a problem since the earlier days of civilization, and now it has escalated to new heights. This needs to stop but how to stop it is another question in itself

World In Conversation : Would you be willing to learn a new language for a job?- 119 Blog

I would be willing to learn a new language if it was a job that I really wanted. When it comes to learning other languages I am not quickest learner but I would be willing to take the time out to contribute to a job that I love. Language is the most complex form of communication but if you learn them you can find them to be very resourceful. How do organizations such as NATO have such a strong relationship? Communication. Some people believe that they shouldnt learn a second language in general, but it can take you a long way.

World In Conversation : What do you think about interracial relationships?- 119 Blog

I have never had an issue with interracial relationships. Nobody should have an issue with these kinds of relationships because the last thing you should be worrying about in a relationship, Over the course of my life I have been mostly interested in African American , Hispanic, or females with Caribbean background. When I first arrived the main campus of Penn State I quickly realized that there are a plethora of females who are not the type that I am usually interested in. So now my options have expanded, but I don’t have a problem with that, I know a lot of people that wouldn’t date outside their race because of their parents. One of my friends I know who is African American was dating a white female and his mother did not approve. His mother was the old school type and was always talking about how she raised him and taught him better than that and that she shouldn’t be dating a white girl. Eventually he broke up with her because the relationship became too awkward, and that’s unfortunate how some people are that ignorant say things like you shouldn’t be dating this girl because she comes from such and such. I also know people that just outright state that they will not date outside their race, simply because they do not want to be with a different person, and that does not make sense to me. Everybody is different. If you meet somebody I think there is a great chance that their mixed. Me personally I’m not a relationship kind of guy but if I was to become interested in being in a relationship I would not let race be a factor because there is so much more to a person than just color of skin. Growing up in New York I constantly saw interracial relationships, my little brother’s third grade teacher is African American and my fifth grade teacher was white and now they have been married for six years and I’m happy that their relationship is still ongoing. I am also glad to be in a place where little things like race don’t matter as much. Some people may be scared or some people may not want to be in a relationship with someone other than someone in their race but that is other people, Me on the other hand? I don’t have a problem with it.

World In Conversation : Why do we think of people from other countries as so different from us?- 119 Blog

I think the reason we think of people from other countries as different because in all actuality we are different. Everybody is different as a matter fact. The only way you can say that everybody is the same is by labeling everybody as human. Other than that there is no way you can say everyone is the same. I think everybody should be proud to be different. And prod to have their separate background and history because it makes the world more interesting. Being different however comes with a price, and that price is discrimination. Most people discriminate on sight while other while other people wait awhile to form an opinion on how they feel about certain people. Either way it’s still wrong. I think people should learn to respect other people no matter where they came from. People also discriminate off of events that have happened in the past, or what they see in groups as a whole. For example, African American gangs. If a certain race is in a gang that causes people to think that everybody in that particular race acts like that which is not necessarily true. However, some people of the same race may use that negative aspect of society as an excuse for their own problems. I’ve heard black people say “the white man won’t let me get a job” and I have to say that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. If you want something you have to go get it yourself and stop making excuses for yourself. And stop making crazy assumptions. We are different, and I’d rather would have it that way, but the world would be better if everybody knew that everybody was different but didn’t have anything bad to say about it. It makes everything so much easier, but some people can’t seem to live without having something to say about somebody and at times that can annoy me, and I’m pretty sure I am not the only one who feels this

World In Conversation : Interpret the Lupe Fiasco lyrics- 119 Blog

Lupe Fiasco is a very intelligent individual and his lyrics are not the ordinary lyrics that you can find easy to interpret. This is what I think Lupe Fiasco means when he said that particular line. When a person has a problem and they do not want to talk about it, in my eyes the problem is not being solved. When light is not shone on a certain situation, I believe it only makes matters worse. When I was young, if I had a problem, nobody would know about it. They would just know that I was mad and that was that. However I learned over the years that that would not solve anything, because at the end of the day you are just moping. I realized that if I talk to people about my problem, someone could have the solution and I would be over the situation way sooner than if I didn’t tell anybody. Violence isn’t good but it can be prevented in the future. That’s why I think Lupe said he thinks the silence is worse than the violence. Most violence people hear about it whether it be because of the news or the radio or whatever. However, if people do not hear about it because the police decide to keep it to themselves it is only going to make matters worse. Therefore, what I think what Lupe is trying to say is to SPEAK UP. Nobody will know if something is wrong unless you say something.

World In Conversation : Do You Think Race Can Stop Being an Issue in the Future?- 119 Blog

Hopefully that will be the case in the near future. In a way, I believe that it is starting to happen now. Things have changed a great amount since the 1800s. You had the civil war, segregation, the civil rights movement. Now I think people understand that there are problems way bigger than race. Race isn’t even a problem, people just made it that way. Now we have other issues such as terrorism and the recession so people in my opinion have no choice but to turn to those problems. I believe that we are beginning to realize that everybody can accomplish more if we work together. In my eyes, I believe the biggest sign of race not being a sign in the future Is President Obama. He is the first African American president of the United States that is huge. This goes to show that everybody that voted for Obama didn’t think of race as an issue. As the years progress I believe everyone will get the message. It will finally click to them that race is not an issue. Some people use that as a scapegoat, but at the end of the day it is all up to you. If you want to be successful then it is up to you to take out your plan.

World In Conversation : Why Do We Associate With People of The Same Race and Ethnicity as Ourselves?- 119 Blog

I think different ethnic groups have problems associating with other groups but themselves because they simply aren’t comfortable doing it. If you have been raised in a place where all the people around you are your ethnic group, then it would be hard to adapt when you see a different group. When I go to class every day I see a lot of groups hanging out with each other. There is the occasional mixed group but the majority of groups are the entire ethnic race. All of these people have come from different states and even different countries around the world, so to put them in one place like a university campus, I believe it’s putting different groups out of their comfort zone a little bit. They may have their guard up for a little while when they first get there, but I believe it takes two to tango. Another group may pass by, and they might not choose to interact either, because they are not comfortable as well. I think this also is how stereotypes start. One group may not know much about the other group so they begin to assume, and it’s always a high chance that assumption was not a good one. If different ethnic groups begin to interact more, than there will be no more stereotypes because we will be getting the correct information from the source. I think some people like interacting with different ethnic groups more than others. Me, for example, I was born and raised in New York City so all my life I have been around other ethnic groups other than mine. It’s amazing to me how everybody can have their own personality, ands me I think that’s what separates me from a lot of people. I look at people for who they are not what they are; there is a huge difference there. When I came to Penn State it was no different. I look back and I see I have made lots of friends from different ethnic groups. I believe people just need to learn how to interact more. My mother always told me, communication is the key, and indeed it is, because it unlocks a whole new world of possibilities, and options and you would have never known because you weren’t thinking outside the box. Its going to take a very long time but if it works, the world would definitely be a better place for everyone.

World In Conversation : Why Can't We Just Be Human?- 119 Blog

Here's what I think. I think everybody knows that their human. However, in a world that is full of humans, I believe the term human is to general. There’s no flavor in the mixing pot when you just call yourself a human. When you throw the different cultures into the pot I think it makes things more interesting. To be a part of a race also comes with pride, history, and a rich tradition, and in a class like this where we can interact with different types of people makes it even more interesting. For example, me. My mother is from Jamaica, She embraces the culture. She cooks great meals, loves to listen to reggae music. That culture is then passed down to me so as I have gotten older, I too learn to embrace the culture as well as the American lifestyle, and I am proud to be who I am, and everybody should be proud of who they are and proud of their heritage.
