I'm on a PC, not a mac :( So what I gather is I need to ensure I keep my current baseband when I upgrade, and to do that I need a mac to make a "custom" firmware, which means a firmware that doesn't update the baseband... ?

Hi, I have a 3G... so if I just find the 3.1.3 and install that with the latest redsn0w and then use ultrasn0w, I should be good to go? I mean the baseband that will be updated on my phone is safe for unlocking? - Thanks!!!!

I have the EXACT same issue with the wifi after rebuilding the phone from scratch with redsnow beta 5. I don't use bluetooth or push email so I don't know if those issues are in my phone...

only issue i'm experiencing so far is when I reboot the phone the wifi will say it's connected but doesn't work. I need to turn wifi off then on again for it to work... I redid everything from scratch... shift+restore, redsnow beta 5, 3G off, ultrasnow....

I tried that... I am in the same situation on a 3g and re-ran redsnow-5 without cydia but my apn/mms screen still doesn't show. It just shows an on/off button instead. :(

OK, I have a 3g that has 4.0 on it that was a fresh restore with redsn0w beta 4 and ultrasnow. My issue was that the APN/Data settings screen isn't shown and it just showed on/off switch. I just ran the new redsn0w beta 5 and deslected cydia, rebooted, and it's still just an on/off button, no screen to enter settings? any ideas??? I prefer not to restore from scratch. Using tmobile.... I tried resetting the network settings, and reistalling ultrasn0w, but no luck... :( input??? advice??? thanks!!

They just released 0.9.5b5-5 that will fix this issue!! You can run it without a restore too... just deselect Cydia!

exact same issue here... no internet on tmobile os 4.0 on 3g due to not having the APN settings screen visible to change settings... The only solution I've seen that sounds like it may work is to start from scratch restoring to 4.0, then install Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-3 first!! Then run ultrasn0w, reboot, then run Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-4 (UNcheck Cydia) to have iBook fix implemented.... I haven't tried this though because I don't know where to get a good version of Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-3

I hope you find and share your solution as I have the exact issue and I have read plenty of others with this same issue... as well as iBooks not working right... So far I've heard people say try everything from scratch and use redsn02 .9.5b5-3, but I don't know where to get this from...

I am in the EXACT same boat as naeroes... and I mean everything he said to a T... comments about this site, what to do on your phone, and using a 3g jailbreak/unlock wanting to update but NOT lose my unlock.... Thanks SO much for your post Confucious!!!! Any recommendations on how to view this forum on this dev site in a different way to keep up with replies to a particular post to avoid me from scrolling through each page to find it later after more people post? Does anyone know of a good site that gives a good overview on the REAL (not fake) options for each phone BB/Version?? I found out about f0recast last night to run on PC with phone connected to identify your BB/version and jailbreak/unlock options, but it seems to require itunes 9.0.3 and I have fear of updating my itunes 8.2.1.6 in case it cripples me in some way from keeping my jailbreak/unlock.... Any site that make this clear too? Thanks all!!! This community rocks!!! I mean, everyone helping each other!!!! thank you!!!!!! oh! I just noticed the subscribe option for a post as I scrolled down to hit submit! that's cool!!!

Thank you for the response... What if I have a 3G (not a 3GS). I'm just trying to understand what I should do if my phone all the sudden gets locked up and doesn't work and I need to rebuild it from scratch (something I DID have to do recently). Thanks!

Sorry, trying to understand... What do you mean we can only restore to FW3.1? I mean, if I keep iTunes 8.2.1 installed and keep 3.0.1 on phone and my phone messes up and I need to do a restore, can I still do the sift+restore to 3.0 and jabilbreak/unlock? Or will it stop me, even tho I DIDN'T upgrade iTunes or iPhone somehow? Thank you!
