And most of all I don't get all this hatred and the prejudices shown in this discussion. Marriage is about commitment, enabling you to take care of the person you love, enabling you to take care of your kids - and from a society's point of view an institution that provides stability. No matter what facet of the topic we talk about, it usually doesn't take long till the topic of sex is introduced to the discussion. Please, grow up and free your minds, because marriage is not about sex! If you really want to know what happens when gay marriage is legalized, just have a look overseas and I think you'll be surprised. Equality has one amazing effect on society - equality strengthens a society and doesn't destroy it as you many of you seem to believe.

I don't live in the US - I live in Europe and here in a lot of countries same sex marriage / civil unions are already reality. A lot of people seem so concerned about the outcome of this for society, so please let me tell you from experience. And please keep in mind that the societies in Europe (the old world as you might call it) are based upon Christian beliefs and the Catholic Church has a history of centuries over here. Ok, what happened to society after allowing gay marriage / same sex unions? Well, nothing much to be quite frank. Of course, it was a huge step for the gay community, finally being accepted as equal - but talking about society nothing really happened. It is a simple part of daily life and I don't get all this fuss about it.
