I don't think this has anything to do with the well-being of his kids and everything to do with leveraging his kids to get him out of his (essentially) non-compete contract with the channel. Though I'd argue that the show is clearly not going to do great things for these kids in the future.

I don't think that OVERALL she's a bad actress. It's just that in this series I can SEE the effort she's exerting to seem so EARNEST. Probably that is the director's fault. :D The accents are (as per most TV) horrible.

I reread books 1 and 2 after the season got underway. Apparently I stopped reading the series before what I've seen described as "Anita Blake-like nympho sex" - either that or the humor in the books deflected enough attention that I didn't notice. Either that or it wasn't as bad as Anita Blake de-evolution (and I really can't believe it would be a competition). At any rate, no matter how bad the sexual olympics may shake out, it can't be as painful as most of Anna Paquin's acting in the series. (I say this out of LOVE, Anna!) The HBO series has done a great job of improving the 'minor' characters in the books and will ultimately always win in my book because of LAFAYETTE.
