Are...you talking about Harker? That's defs not Harker. http://broodhollow.chainsawsuit.com/page/2013/06/... First off, that ghost doesn't have a corporeal body. Harker was still inhabiting his corpse, so you can only see his spirit glowing through his eyes. Secondly, attacking ghosts isn't his MO. They've got no body for him to take bits from.

Broodhollow : Change of Subject

So it looks like Wadsworth's still retreating from the real mystery. He's using the importance of the Pattern as a shield to avoid delving into what's going on in the background. But that still leaves the question, what did Cadavre show/tell him down there? Why did the water drain? What happ'd?

First page and we've already got the 3 red lines appearing. No rest for symbolism it seems. That aside it seems like we're going for a more colorful palette for this arc. I'm curious how the scary's gonna look with it.

Equestria Daily : So, What Did You Think of Starlight Glimmer?

Things I liked about this villain: Both stuck to her guns and escaped judgement. A nice set up for a recurring villain to be dealt with. She's a new threat, not yet another escapee from Celestia's mismanaged rogues gallery. She's not a near omnipotent villain that requires a MacGuffin to defeat. I'm frankly getting weary of the Rainbow of Victory. Things I don't like about this villain: Oh FFS, is she ANOTHER dark parallel of Twilight? This is what, 3 now?

Equestria Daily : Drawfriend Stuff #1474 - Twilight \"Best Poni\" Sparkle

Ah ha! Homestuck! A flimsy excuse to post my own theories on classpects! Twilight-Mage of Blood. Considered making her a mind player, but with its ties to bonds in general, Blood seemed more relevant to her growth arc. Applejack-Something of Life. Couldn't really decide on a class for her, but Life seemed appropriate given her occupation is the tending of an orchard. Fluttershy-Prince of Rage. One who destroys rage or destroys through rage. Seems apt considering her calm nature and infrequent outbursts. Rarity-Sylph of Space-I dunno on this one, it just seemed appropriate. Pinkie-Bard of Time. Of course she's a bard, what else would she possibly be? As for Time, I just have this image of like 50 of her on each planet at any time using Pinkie Sense to triangulate when and where things are happening. Also all of them showing up any time something worth partying over happens. Rainbow Dash-Knight of Breath. Again, just seemed right.

Broodhollow : Happy Holidays

I dunno, I binged the first book but had to go through the second at his pace. While it's slower, it also allows we the viewers time to try to digest what's going on and make sense of it. One of my favorite things to do is theorize and this is a comic ripe for it.

Broodhollow : Our Past, Our Foundation

It just isn't as interesting a focal point for discussion. We just dealt with a bus sized bug and we're staring at some real eldritch conspiracy shit. Whatever came out of the cages is likely either more of what we know or something less troubling. If it wasn't where the Worms came from, then we have no basis to speculate, so there's really nothing to say on the matter.

Not all of it. The chains and cages imply much more recent activity. They imply knowledge of metalworking skills, which seem much more recent than the disk at the very least. The Society of the Skull and Shovels didn't just pick their name by coincidence. They did SOMETHING down here. The question is what and why.

Broodhollow : Our Past, Our Foundation

Addendum to my theorizing. I note that while the chains and cages look relatively new in the grand scheme of things, the cave drawings and the disk look much more ancient in design. The images on them look reminiscent of cave paintings done by cavemen, rather than the work of a culture that knew how to work metal. If this is the case, then it means that whatever this all is, it started a very long time ago. Perhaps rather than starting whatever this is, some of the people who settled here simply discovered all this, and created the Society of the Skull and Shovels as a result. Hmmm. This all makes me think. Patterns can occur in large scale as well as person to person. What if the Pattern was part of what they discovered here? What if their intention was to try to make it work for them? Wadsworth's interpretation of the Pattern before coming to Broodhollow was that by performing specific actions during specific events, he could ward off bad luck, or bring on good luck. What if they tried to do that on a citywide scale? Everyone in the city performing specific actions for specific events. You know. Like holidays.

Incorrect I'm afraid. I'm not certain if it's the first time they appear, but the three red lines also appear in his first dream with Cadavre, when he gets blindsided in his room by a stray lamp. The red lines have been a running theme, if they have a purpose outside of that, it's still unclear.

Broodhollow : Our Past, Our Foundation

LET IT BEGIN! The first thing to note is that the patterning on the ground and behind the disk matches that from when Wadsworth dreamt about learning his Pattern. http://broodhollow.chainsawsuit.com/page/2014/02/... This establishes a solid link between his dreams and the history of the town. Second thing to note, the Society of Skull and Shovels, or whatever preceded them, appears to be responsible for this place, whatever it is. The disk is a pretty obvious analog to their symbol. The question then is whether or not they STILL dabble in this stuff. The cairns, rather than being organized in a circle, are placed within the pattern's major circles. They also have varying shapes, now that we can see them all. They all share the red lines and the pinpoint lights, but aside from that they have varying shapes. This could signify numerous entities LIKE the Emissary. The strip that introduced him did after all call him "An Emissary", implying plurality. What all this means, I'm not certain. The fact that each cairn is placed at a major node in the Pattern feels incredibly significant, but for what purpose, it's probably too early to tell precisely. But perhaps the most surprising bit here is that we have finally met Cadavre in the pale. Why is he here of all places? He appears to be bleeding from his eyes, perhaps this is related to his death? He keeps talking about 'looking' and 'seeing'. Perhaps he saw something his mind couldn't handle.

Broodhollow : The Cairns

huh, good catch, I hadn't noticed it before, but in all the panels there's a light coming from Wadsworth's left. The cairns are interesting, but given we were shown them before whatever's casting the shadow, whatever that is is the star attraction down here.

Broodhollow : The Cairns

Looks like theory 4 was correct today. Stacks of rocks with red lines drawn on them that resemble the Emissary, each with a small pinprick of light floating over it. They would have to have been built by something, so unless the Emissary is just a huge narcissist, we can assume now that something is or was paying some kind of homage to it. This implies stature and importance. It's an entity with a history, and a powerful one at that. We could assume this prior due to ghosts reactions to it, but this pretty much confirms that as far as the supernatural goes, the Emissary is at least a step up from what we've dealt with so far. I wish we could see the layout of the cairns. It would be nice to see if there were some pattern to their placement, such as a ring, to mimic the ring of lights above its head.
