I am not sure that term limits are the real answer. The voters have the ability to implement term limits now. Just vote the folks out. I would like to see some smaller government. That could be achieved by simply changing a few points in the constitution. We might start by reducing the number of representatives in the house by 50%. Getting rid of 1/2 of that crowd would go a long way in saving dollars, office space, ear marks and other useless regulation. The real problem is the term lengths not limits. We have too many elections too often. Change the term length for the President to six years and the house to four years. Leave the senate at six. If a real bum gets elected it would still be possible to impeach.
A draft has been proven to be a very a bad idea. I spend 20 plus years in the Army. I started under the draftee system (Vietnam era). It does not work. The Army that won Desert Storm did not contain any drafted members. A society that cannot convince its citizens to support the military does not deserve to exist. Think about the draft from the standpoint of the police or fire department. Do you want to draft fireman? Then you might have someone that has no desire to fight fires, and no motivation to fight fires. How fast do you think that fireman will respond when your house is ablaze? When he does finally show up will he have the motivation to run into the burning building to save your cat or child?
The solution to the entire economic issue was already in place the FairTax Act. We did not need TARP or any bailout, just the passing of the FairTAx Act that would have solved the economic problem, illegal alien issue, strengthened the dollar and provided the capital needed for some real social improvement efforts.
The abolishment of all govt pensions - if you limit that to just elected officials it might work, but the way it is listed it might infer the military pensions also. A lot of folks are on military and government pensions that were not elected officials. Would not include those folks. I would add the fairtax as a seventh key platform item.
