The ship is the tug "Nostromo", and it is pulling an automated refinery system back to Earth after a mining operation. Granted, the scale of something like that is far beyond this initial venture, but the idea is there and feasible given the appropriate technology and financial incentive. As the weather gets better, the more high speed cyclists come out and are a bloody nuisance to the rest of the trail users. Being yelled at for having the audacity to walk on "their" bike track is a good way to ruin an otherwise nice day.
