The opening scenes from "Alien" come to mind.

The ship is the tug "Nostromo", and it is pulling an automated refinery system back to Earth after a mining operation.

Granted, the scale of something like that is far beyond this initial venture, but the idea is there and feasible given the appropriate technology and financial incentive.

There is also a strong precedent for "sci fi tech" making it in to reality. Look at some of the gadgets from Star Trek.

Sadly, so long as the government is *not* involved, this project stands a very good chance of being successful, efficient and profitable in a short period of time.

If you were to add on all the layers of overhead, bureaucracy and BS that a government venture included, it would never get off the ground (pun totally intended).

As a frequent walker on the Cedar River Trail, I wish whichever responsible authority would patrol it more and ticket/fine the bicycle riders who use it as a personal training track for what they believe is the Tour de France.

As the weather gets better, the more high speed cyclists come out and are a bloody nuisance to the rest of the trail users. Being yelled at for having the audacity to walk on "their" bike track is a good way to ruin an otherwise nice day.

The upper deck on a 747 is usually first or business class, depending on the airline. Not many people traveling with kids can afford that?
