<description>I had exactly the same experience where katakana seemed to take me a lot longer than hiragana. I wondered about it for a while but I soon realized that the problem was exposure. I simply wasn&amp;#039;t reading katakana enough. As soon as I got more practice, it sorted itself. This lack of exposure argument holds even now because I pause when I look at some of the rarer ones like ヲ.  </description>
