Sterling was ruined by Gordon Brown all but bankrupting the country and then Brexit destroying free trade with the EU, the only sense in which it is undervalued at the moment is if the chancellor and BOE do not get back to sound money rather than running away from spending and tax reforms, the latter needed anyway to reflex Covid.

I am sure that someone can dig up the plans for the Morris Marina and encourage the govn to spend a few billion converting it to electric power...

Turnover tax and transaction taxes should be used to simplify the tax system by eliminating most other taxes, including council tax and business rates, whilst capital gains and inherited money should be taxed as income with no extra allowances. Meanwhile welfare should be just 5k per person up to 10k max per household, in-work benefits phased out.

The quick fix for social care tax is combining income tax and NI into a single tax so that the higher rates would then apply to pensioners but would only affect those on high incomes whilst those on lower incomes would get a tax cut but no in-work benefits.

We have so many Indians in this country that we almost have an automatic trade link built in via their extended family links and British Indians have done very well in this country, they tend to have a priority of their children's education even when the parents themselves are doing low end jobs.

Great but a failure by this govn in not getting a free trade deal done already and only have a minor face-saving agreement in sight.

Covid is an international emergency situation in which govns collectively got away with electronic printing of easy money, huge amounts of which no doubt disappeared into the ether only to turn up in Swiss bank accounts of many of those involved.

In normal times, efficiency of tax payer's money invested in industry is very low, necessary infrastructure is done at about 30 percent efficiency compared to private industry, not withstanding the old Brown/Blair strategy of bloated estimates so that they gave the impression of coming in on time and under budget.

Then you have the problem of power grasping politicians unwilling to downsize their departments to match, going forward, lower GDP and tax receipts.

China has been plundering the country for a decade or more, may have been attempts to reign them in by the civilian govn.

Perhaps this is a job for (ex) President Trump, heading an international military task force, his unpredictability unnerving the Burmese generals... no coincidence that this has happened with a weak new USA president.

We have to accept that the terrible damage done to the environment by international tourism means it needs to be drastically reduced even without fast mutating variants of Covid flying around the world. The govn could accept this and get way ahead of the game by reforming the country to suit domestic tourism, as long as there was instant covid test available for people who want to move out of their immediate neighbourhoods. Huge building boom along our southern coasts to build up hotels and short stay apartments would be one result.

The Big State and the huge NHS machinery petrified of being seen as not needed, the govn can rant and rave until it is blue in the face, people will just buy the pills on the internet regardless. Admit defeat, open up the whole industry.

Keep universal credit at current rate but cap household welfare at 10k so there is some incentive to actually get a job. With the current minimum wage in-work benefits need to be phased out so that welfare spending is limited despite more unemployed. Build lots of hostels in Labour strongholds where long term unemployed can be relocated, freeing up much needed social housing for those in low paid work.
