What If... : The Price...

Points for sure! I'm just glad to know someone reads this thing. I was beginning to think of it more as a journal :) As well, I'm sorry that I am so slow in responding. I got your comments earlier but Mer & I were catching up on Modern Family. Like I commented to Chad. This may have sounded more like a rant than what I meant it to. I may not have communicated my point very well. I most likely should have waited til I got home to post. My intent was to speak to a bigger issue and not as much about the situation to which you refer. My discussion was only the catalyst for putting my thoughts down on this blog. They have been stirring for a while & the convo just pushed me to it. With that being said I do believe that the person (love this 3rd person thing) we are referring to does "get it" (see my thoughts below) and because he does...he is threatening to establishment. Change always is. He just brought out in me today something that I have been wanting to say for weeks, this post was not a response to the situation. On a personal note, I'm sorry that I disappointed you and you can really only say that you think I'm "better" than this if you perceive my comments or judgements to be wrong or that they are based on emotion and not fact or conviction. I do not believe that they are wrong or that I am "better" than this as my statements are based upon the facts that I am familiar with and my convictions. As, I have communicated to you privately I am at a place where I believe to survive...without the turmoil of say the European church, we need to make big changes in the way we do church in America. I intended for the statements to be judgements and based on the information that I have, I am comfortable with them. I do not mean them to be belittling but I do mean for them to be a wake up call. The old ways don't work. We keep perpetuating systems of used car salesmen in a craigslist world (I do like that line :-) I am not any longer a guy that believes that it is okay that we keep perpetuating consumeristic social clubs that have very little resemblance to Acts 2 communities. They are safe familiar and comfortable but they are not what Jesus left us to be about. Spring HIll itself is loaded with new churches that for all practical purposes are the same and we'll just continue swapping people around to them as one becomes more popular than another. We know from hard data that we are not growing as a church in America but we keep on doing the same stuff. We keep starting the same kinds of churches and are holding on for dear life in the ones that were once cool but are now not. The people have left & gone to the new cool places. We keep doing it over & over & over expecting different results. This equals - insanity. To stop treading water or losing people, students included, we are going to have to be willing to shed structures of the past for new ways of ministry. This means we have to be okay with less security. We are going to have to take leaps of faith. The olds ways simply aren't working. We can retool them all we want but they aren't. My friend in the Parks (and I mean that), I am convinced of this. After a lot of years as a believer, a lot of years in churches big & small, a lot of years as a leader/pastor in churches big & small, if I have learned one thing I think it is this...you can't shepherd sheep from a distance. If you are not willing to live with them, eat with them, sacrifice for them, protect them, guide them then you aren't shepherding you are herding. And that is not the model that we were given. Shepherds are what I am praying for in our nation. Or maybe this way...Paul wrote that in his day, their were many teachers but not many fathers. We need fathers who love as our father has loved us. Again, these are my judgements and I am comfortable with them. If you want to phrase it as, "people agreeing with me" then okay. In this I am at peace with saying, "Yes. To a certain degree I believe I am right on this." I am sorry if it comes off as degrading or belittling. I don't mean it to be taken that way. I'm okay if people don't agree with me and I know...gosh I know I'm in the minority, but that's okay. I may be wrong but I'm okay standing before God with it. --- My heart in the post was really to express that I know numerous people who "get it" as you labeled it. To me this means that they know what needs to be done in their context. They can feel it in their bones. God has put it in them but their current structures won't allow for it. They know they need to be with the people that God has entrusted to them & not basically working in a corporation that is doing Jesus stuff. Their systems have to be fed. Their jobs depend on it. I'm praying for people to dump the system for a new way. Or maybe it is fear that keeps people locked in to what "they know." I am praying for the fear to be overcome because I do believe that God is with them & for them. My prayer is for those people who see what could be if only someone would do ________________________ to step out & do it; that they would be the change they want to see. Peace ~ wm

What If... : Oh, This Should Lead to Some Good Discussion :)

Ha Ha or no one reads my blog.

1st paragraph - had the same exact thoughts.

I've always thought that IQ could change. I know that I took tests at different ages with different results. I think as always that my biggest concern would be that we don't seem to train people to think very well. We seem to gravitate to answers and rules very quickly with out helping people engage in the questions or the process so that they can think on their on when different issues arise.

I really didn't so much have an agenda as I just wanted to hear different thoughts on the matter.

So I would say...

1) It's funny, lighten up a bit.
2) If you take the time to look most of these \"uneducated\" people up you will see that they are often, very well educated
3) Stop going to the movies. No one is making you go. That is your choice.
