Big Government : O'Keefe Owes His Supporters an Explanation

Hey Darogr, I'm curious: Is a troll someone who has a perspective that differs from the prevailing opinion, and says so? If that's the case, I'm a troll, but I do try to avoid insulting those I disagree with. Seriously, can you tell me what was insulting about my comment? Have you read the Harshbarger report, by the way? Copies are available all over the Internet, and you can get to it from the link above (which isn't a Rachel Maddow link, by the way). The report opened my eyes to problems in ACORN, as well as problems with James O'Keefe's investigation. Like you, I'm reserving judgment until I hear what O'Keefe has to say. I wonder why he hasn't been more aggressive about getting his side of the story out?

And here's another link, more to the point, discussing how O'Keefe didn't actually represent himself to ACORN as a pimp. The pimp part was edited in later: http://www.bradblog.com/?p=7761.

O'Keefe's record speaks for itself. He is a convicted federal criminal after all, and it does seem that a trend is developing here. But if the allegations made by Santa and Boudreau are true, here's what I don't get: What in the world would make James O'Keefe think that Ms. Boudreau would have any interest in cavorting with him on a "pleasure palace" boat? Seriously; I wonder if he is decompensating? And bravo to Andrew Breitbart for demanding an explanation. Live and learn.

Actually, O'Keefe didn't dress up like a pimp to "punk" ACORN, he edited the videos (inserting himself dressed in a pimp costume after the fact) to "punk" us--you, me and all the regular folks who watched the videos on TV. This was the finding of the Harshbarger Report and other objective investigations of the facts. You can read more about how O'Keefe was actually dressed as a college student during his ACORN visits here, if you're interested: http://www.bradblog.com/?p=8019. I make this point just to clarify, since we all want to find out the truth, right? And I'm very interested in finding out how O'Keefe explains this one.

Big Government : Sherrod Wants BigGovernment Shut Down, Thinks She Should Sue Breitbart

If you read through the comments on Breitbart's original story ("Video Proof"), you can learn more about the mistake(s) he made: http://biggovernment.com/abreitbart/2010/07/19/vi.... It doesn't make much sense to rehash those arguments here. And....way to prove my point on the name-calling issue.

Big Government : Congressman: Sherrod's Hiring Should Be Investigated

Wow--it's only beem a couple of days, and here on BIGGOVERNMENT we see another blogger making unsubstantiated accusations against Sherrod, and an unquestioning audience willing to believe them. Don't you think it'd be worthwhile to to find out the truth before jumping on the bandwagon? Isn't that what this site is supposed to stand for?

I'm new to this forum, but after having read the comments on this article and others, what impresses me most is the lack of critical thinking, the prevalence of name-calling/insults, and the absence of any sort of useful analysis. I'd hoped there would be some discussion here about how we can learn something from the whole Sherrod train wreck--you know, maybe discuss ways to avoid future mistakes like the ones that were made by Breitbart, NAACP, White House, Fox, but apparently I'll have to go to some other forum for that. I mean, really. "I knew Sherrod was an idiot?" "Enough about this HO?" How in the world do comments like these advance the discussion?

Big Government : Video Proof: The NAACP Awards Racism–2010

It's been fascinating and distressing to watch this situation play out. Now we all know that Breitbart showed a complete disregard for journalistic codes of ethics by editing his video so that viewers would draw conclusions that were the opposite of Sherrod's intent when she gave her speech. The text in the intro of the video is particularly misleading, in that the anecdote occurred long before Sherrod held her federal job, and she used the story to show that she learned from the experience. The readers of this site should protest Breitbart's actions vigorously. How can a "journalist" who distorts the truth so intentionally ever be trusted? The code of ethics for the Society of Professional Journalists says that journalists should "seek truth and provide a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues." Breinbart isn't a journalist and he certainly can't be trusted to tell the truth about big government. Video Proof. Oh, brother.
