This one article is not something to base the whole outlook of the Family on. I realize since your post you have looked at different sources. We all know how powerful words are; look at the main stream media today. People believe what they want to believe; and they are also easily swayed. I think trying to push one certain point of view sort of pushes people away. The more someone tries to convince me of something, the more I dig my heels in and decide for myself....This is why I don't appreciate the preaching and the fearful points of view of so many folks that call themselves Christians. They should take out the mote in their own eyes and quit judging and condemning others...

I've read just about every article about the Family that has been wrtten, both positive and negative. There is, to my knowledge nothing written by anyone who actually lived within the Family for any amount of time, an old timer so to speak; a person who lived for years and years there, a person who raised children there who really knew what life was like on a daily basis. As I mentioned in another of my comments, I'll bet you'll get as many varying stories as there are the people who lived them. It is true though that the Family was based on the New Testament of the Bible, or so professed. The Old Testament was taught as the history of mankind. The New Testament was what mattered the most because Christ taught there were only two laws:"To Love God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind" and to Love your neighbor as yourself" (Probably not exact quotes, but you get the idea)

It is only my opinion, but I highly doubt that the Family will be re gathered like it was in the old days. The times have changed, people have changed. It is a new generation now, and most of the first generation of Family are mostly dispersed and only loosely connected. Any of the people I know or have talked to are not interested in recreating the same old thing.

The Family is nothing like what it used to be. First of all there is only a handful of core people that still live communally in the group around Love. Some of them are of Love's own children and grandchildren. The kids who grew up within the family have children now and lives of their own. These kids have strong and positive bonds with each other to this day, nothing cultish about it. There is no need to fear. That being said the way the Family was structured it was bound to fail. No one person has all the answers and no one should ever give another absolute power over them.

I agree with you....there were a lot of idealistic people searching for a better way in those days. The Family was only one of these groups. There have always been people who take advantage of others. I know the Family pretty well; hardly dangerous. I think the most dangerous people are the narrowminded people who calll thems Christians and then preach fear and condemnation to those who don't agree with them; people who are closed to those of other faiths or beliefs or cultures.

There are probably as many points of view about the Family as there are people. Everyone has a different experience. some negative, some positive. The ideas of love and forgiveness are still true, no matter what. Personally I think most churches are hypocritical at best; and some people use the Bible to guilt trip others into changing their way of thinking. People should just be good examples and quit judging and trying to convert others. There are more religions that Christianity in this world, after all. Who are we to say one religion is better than another.

I'd like to read a book written by those who lived within the community; those who actually gave their lives to the cause, heart and soul; especially the women. I'd like to read the truth, not the cover up; life as it really was within the group.
