Bikes deserve the same footprint as cars. If they are in their lane the deserve to be safe from impact. I can&#039;t count how many times people have felt it is ok to push their way into my lane when I&#039;m on my bike. They will expect you to move to one side of the lane or the other to avoid them and its just not right. I commute everyday on a bike and put about 30,000 miles per year on bikes...its getting so unsafe on the roads it really is sad. People in cars feel invincible and drive like they are. You are hidden from on coming traffic and more at risk of people pulling out in front of you as well as being hidden from the car in front of you (people check their side mirrors more than their rear view mirror. The motorcycle safety folks teach new riders to ride in the tire path of the drivers side tires when going down the open road. . This is the culture! These are the men you are forced to work with. There are personal exceptions and there are departmental exceptions but I am here to say this type of attitude exists in too many law enforcement personel and agencies.
