Since it was in that episode and the next that he met Stella and Tony it stands to reason the events of those episodes take place in May. Since they open this episode with them talking about Ted taking the job as a professor, a job Tony got him, its only logical to assume this episode happens after the previous 2. But since this episode takes place during Teds birthday party, it opens a clear paradox since that is April 25th. Thats my view on the subject. But as i said it doesn't make this episode any less awesome. The 3 big mistakes that Marshal commited in his life were shown in season 3's "Dowisetrepla" and don't include that scene. What we see is Marshal as a kid on the roof of his house with cardboard wings in his arms and baloons strapped on his back, as other kids (maybe even his brothers) incite him to jump (wich he presumably did). That was the 1st mistake, the 2nd was the haircut he did to himself on his wedding day and the 3rd was buying the house in that episode (Dowisetrepla). I know i'm repeating myself but follow me here: -According to last years goat episode, Ted's birthday is April 25th. -He met Stella and Tony in May. Therefore Tony only proposed to get Ted that teacher job in May. -If this episode happens in Teds 31st birthday party one of two things is wrong. Either his birth date was wrong last season (doubtful since future Ted said the date himself). Or this years surprise party was done a couple of weeks after the actual birthday. But i'm ready to let that slide for now and just enjoy what was an awesome episode. Also, for the 2nd year straight, Ted ends up at the hospital for the season finale. You hit the nail once again. And thatnks for the slutty pumpkin, i hadn't noticed that. I don't know if its because its new or because its something i've been waiting for a long time but this has become my favorite episode for the season, maybe even the whole 4 seasons. It shows all those that were doubting the show and complaining of all the detours from the mother story that in the end, all the pieces fit and you need them all to see the big picture. And the goat... i don't know what i was expecting after over a year of speculation but this is a good example of how a little can be a lot. So she "just" wrestled with Ted. I think i peed a little. Accept things for what they are. Would people be happier if there was an episode with Barney in driving school? If they had done that, those same people would come out and say that the writers had wasted our time with an episode about Barney learning how to drive instead of focusing on Ted finding the mother. And i have agreed with your episode reviews before but i think this one hit the mark especially the bit about Sarah Chalke. Sure, what Stella did to Ted was BAD, but lets not demonise her, especially after this episode. And Marshal and Barney have become more than Teds best friends (or contenders for the spot), they have slowly become best friends to one another. But its been written in such a subtle way that i don't think even the characters have noticed it. "The Three Day Rule" was the perfect example of this. Barney's story line was gold, as per uge, Robin's "bump this" rocked, and Lilly's return was awesome, especially how after just one sentence by Barney, she just left again. "Ease in to it" ROFL. The big fat check jokes were awesome, even Robin, who usually falls flat in these, nailed hers. Get her back... and then her front... who didn't laugh at that one ? Theres a lot to love in this episode. But hey, to each his own. That's my opinion, others may differ, but i loved it. Bring the season finale and THE GOAT. It brings some closure that the "we're hidding under a tabble 'till she leaves" episode didn't. Maybe Ted will eventually accept that position as teacher and the mother works at that college too or he's invited by Tony to do some design work for his movie and meets the mother in the movie staff. There's a world of possibilities. And FYI, i love Stella, dispite what she did, and i love Sarah Chalke, she's awesome... ROFL with the whole french girl just like Stella but with bigger cans...
