WOW. I'm not sure if I can say it more clearly, but here we go for the 3rd time. I have no interest in the "scores" for myself, nor do I care about my approval. The comments made about scoring were simply a reference to the behavior of others. It really is no trouble to respond. I get an email, and I type a few words. Much less trouble for me to respond than your comment that was not solicited.

negative....not important at all.....simply an objectionable way to measure who is in their right mind here in the opinion of other readers. I made a statement to clarify, and it was met with an immature, sarcastic comment which was fully intent on provoking a response. AV1 received that response. The response is much like that of someone on the football field that talks smack when they are losing the game by several touchdowns. It makes me laugh, and supporting such an argument is just as laughable.

There were multiple comments that indicated discrepancies as to the fault of the accident. It seemed very clear to me. I'm not understanding the sarcasm "Really??? Wow you are smart" since I am one of the few that understood this, apparently. Even more, I'm not sure I understand the intentions of someone that is commenting on another person's post or intelligence as opposed to the story. Issues with self-confidence?? Are you usually not smart or correct? What would be the point of trying to disagree, or respond? Obviously, folks agree with me by looking at your "-20" on the comment, and negative scoring on the subsequent comment as opposed to my +70 and +37 Not doing real well are ya AV1?

Straight from the American Kennel Society: "In mentioning the gameness of the Staffordshire, it is not the intention to tag him as a fighting machine, or to praise this characteristic. These points are discussed because they are necessary in giving the correct origin and history of the breed. The good qualities of the dogs are many, and it would be difficult for anyone to overstress them."

Interesting.....I just visited the AKC website....you are correct that the two breeds you list are recognized as separate (we both knew that-not the issue).....However, the bulk of the issue is over "Pit Bulls". AKC does not list "Pit Bull" or "American Pit Bull Terrier" as a recognized registered breed. In general, an American Staffordshire Terrier is a mix of bulldog and terrier. This is the origin of the "pit bull." I am talking in general terms "pit bull" but according to AKC the "Pit Bull" is the American Staffordshire Terrier. As I said it is a general term inclusive of the 3 I named.

Not close....."Pit Bull" is a general term, there is no right or wrong......Pit Bull breeds are arguably 3 breeds of dog, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The three are not derived from one another, but can be mixed. OR.....some generalize "Pit Bulls" as the Moloseer breeds which includes Great Danes, Mastiffs, etc. You are correct, they are different breeds. So are you using the term Pit Bull as a general term for the three breeds, or are you singling out the American Pit Bull Terrier (which is a modified breed)?? I guess the question to public, news media, and the banning entities is "what do you consider a Pit Bull?"

No don't put him down!!! It's a flaw in his upbringing. Take the dog, by leash to another dog that is socially adapted. Let them sniff each other. If he shows any aggression (or signs like growling) before or during the episode, take him away and lay him on his side until calm. Repeat the exercise again on another day. Each time he should get closer and longer before agitated. Continue to pin him to the ground when he reacts. Eventually he should tolerate the other dog (or dogs). Additional calm dogs will help socialize. Then when comfortable, let them off-leash in a fenced area. Also, it is key that you dominate your dog. When going outside/inside. Do not let him go first. Tell him to sit, and you go through the door first. When walking, demand he stay at your left. Dogs should always walk with their hips no further than your legs, and head no further behind. This training maintains their "Alpha" personality.

There has never been an actual study done to prove this. The CDC tracks dog-bites, but they do not verify the breed. Reports tend to call dogs "pit bull-type" without using experts or testing to determine actual breed.

American Staffordshire is a breed of Pit. Terriers are naturally aggressive toward smaller animals. Typically rodents. My dog has killed a gopher, woodchuck, squirrels, rabbits, mice, birds, and numerous other small animals. She protects our kids and property, but has never bitten another dog or person, though she has frequently run to neighbors with various breeds and "played". A quick lesson on the terrier, pit or any other........unless raised to be aggressive toward people/dogs, they will not attack. However, if another dog attempts to be dominant they will defend or bite.
