Quincy Journal : Adams Co Board tables Rauner’s "Illinois Turnaround" agenda - Quincy, IL News - QuincyJournal.

NONE OF YOU SEEM TO BE GETTING THE POINT. HOW CAN YOU SUBMIT A SPECIFIC REQUEST TO SPEAK FOR AN ITEM ON THE AGENDA BEFORE THE AGENDA IS EVEN AVAILABLE. JESUS, DO I HAVE TO USE CHARTS, GRAPHS, MULTI-MEDIA AND A BULLHORN? REQUEST TO SPEAK - MUST BE SUBMITTED 7 DAYS PRIOR TO THE MEETING AND SPECIFIC AS TO THE TOPIC TO BE DISCUSSED. AGENDA- 48 HOURS (THAT'S 2 DAYS FOR THOSE OF YOU A LITTLE CHALLENGED) PRIOR TO THE MEETING, NOW I KNOW THAT MOST OF YOU WHO POST HERE ARE PSYCHIC, BUT FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE NOT, IT'S A LITTLE CHALLENGING TO "GUESS" WHAT IS GOING TO BE ON THE AGENDA AND WHETHER OR NOT WE WOULD LIKE TO COMMENT. Hope that clears things up.

And what has either have to do (population growth-most RTW states are in the sunshine belt-Duh. Lower union membership-who the hell in their right mind pays for something they can get for free; until it's gone.) with putting more money in the worker's pocket?

Are you the owner or Pontiff? What is your definition of "small business"? How many employees do you have? Is someone holding a gun to your head, or do you want to be the owner? Are you profitable? If so, is it due to your superior management skills alone, or do your employees maybe have a little something to do with it as well? Kinda pisses you off that some workers have some rights while working under a contract, doesn't it? Did you know most CEO's work under contract? You don't think any of your employees don't have any skin in the game? TRY GETTING ALONG WITHOUT ANY!!

You forgot operating engineers, carpenters, electricians, laborers, iron workers, plumbers, sheet metal workers, healthcare workers, actors, machinists... Millions of people across the country and hundreds of thousands in the state. Yes, they mostly support Dems, but that support comes from the membership. On the other hand, ONE person basically supported the new governor financially. HIMSELF! Most members get out of the union what they put into it. I think I get your drift

The whole issue here is being denied the ability to speak in regards to a very important issue. Doesn't anyone else find it odd that you have to submit a request to speak in relation to an issue BEFORE you even know what is on the meeting's agenda? ONLY IN GOOD OL' ADAMS COUNTY. WHERE THE GOOD OL' BOYS AREN'T ALWAYS SO GOOD, THE POOR STAY THAT WAY, AND THE REST ARE CLUELESS. GOOD DAY, AND GOD BLESS!

Instead of you asking the "beneficiaries" of the government entities to lower their collectively bargained benefit of a defined benefit pension, why not elevate you retirement vehicle from a shitty defined contribution plan (that will probably run out before you die and leave your sole income source of Social Security, another socialistic program, and leave the state and federal taxpayers to foot the bill for your sorry ass in a nursing home) to a defined benefit plan?

Quincy Journal : Quincy, IL News - QuincyJournal.com - Havermale, Moore respond to Havermale\'s business tax issues

Also, according to another Quincy news source, those unpaid taxes included payroll taxes and unemployment taxes. If that is indeed the case, it needs to be remembered that half of the payroll tax due the government, IS WITHHELD FROM THE EMPLOYEE! FICA taxes (Federal Insurance Contributions Act, including Social Security tax and Medicare tax) are paid by both the employer and employee. The exception would be during the time period which expired Jan 1, 2013, during which the employee paid a lesser amount. Businesses will often withhold the FICA amount from employees, not pay the payroll tax, and use the funds to assist with struggling business operations with the employees' money. Not only is this illegal, but the employee fails to get credit for the Social Security taxes and Medicare taxies for which they believe they have paid into the system.

I commend QJ for reporting this. I'm a little surprised that Kyle would want to bring about any controversy this early in his administration. If he (Havermale) was the General Manager, it would seem to me that he was responsible for running the day-to-day operation of the business and seeing that all issues were addressed, including the payment of taxes. That is usually the first priority of good managers. Pay all of your taxes (Income, payroll, unemployment, etc..), pay your employees and pay your suppliers. If you drop the ball of any one of those things, you won't stay in business long. Sounds like Havermale should be given some kudos for lasting 10 years!

Really? Right to work for what? Nobody has to join a union. If they don't want to be a part of the union, they should go find work in a non-union job. Isn't that kind of your mentality anyway; if you don't like working here, go someplace else. Sounds like you might be a little jealous! Who is fighting for your wages, benefits and working conditions? Every study shows that union workers make higher wages, have better benefits and working conditions than their non-union counterparts. What's wrong with that? What in your opinion is the problem and what is the solution?

Exactly right. Why would we want to hire anyone that has the knowledge and necessary training to do the work properly, when we can hire anyone off the street at minimum wage to do the job?

Quincy Journal : Quincy, IL News - QuincyJournal.com - Strawman: Are We People or Abortions Gone Wrong?

The abortion question is the toughest one I have as a Catholic liberal. Personally, I don't believe in abortions, but do I have the right to tell a woman what she can and can't do with her body? On the other hand, is it the murder of a human being if an abortion is performed, and shouldn't that unborn child have all the rights any other individual has? I guess that is why there has been such a fierce debate surrounding this issue for almost 40 years.

I beleive all final decisions on the awarding of contracts is held by the School Board. The Building Committee merely makes recommendations to the full board. I believe that it is important to have members that have a background in construction on the committee. Mr. Jones probably has more experience in construction than the rest of the committee combined.

Think you better check your facts again, Quincy Journal. After going through the administrative hearing process with IDOT in October, the Chief Procurement Officer of IDOT suspended Brink for two years. You may read the Final Determination of Suspension at http://www2.illinois.gov/cpo/dot/Documents/R.%20L....
