http://www.equestriagaming.com/ : Temno Moves to Unity

I for one think it's actually inspiring that the dev decided to make an original game rather than a fan game. So what if the game doesn't feature settings or characters from My Little Pony? It doesn't change the fact that this game is something that was directly inspired by My Little Pony. The passion and the creativity that the brony fandom is known for is very much still present in this game. I believe we should support these kinds of endeavors and I can't wait to see what's going to come out of it!

No. That's the front side, only upside down. If it was the backside, if you flipped it around, the ponies would be facing left rather than facing right like they are on the bottom row.

http://www.equestriagaming.com/ : APFG

First of all, things like creating move sets would actually fall into the art category of a game. Second, while a lot of work does go into designing a game and coming up with ideas, just as much work needs to be done in order to execute those ideas. A modder might not need to think up move sets or think about game balance but he still needs to redraw every frame of animation and reposition all the hitboxes etc. Point is, creating a mod for a fighting game isn't as easy as it sounds.

http://www.equestriagaming.com/ : APFG

Seeing as how 90% of the work for a fighting game is something art-based, the time it would take for someone to make a mod for a fighting game is about the same as the time it would take for that person to make his own game. Your plan might work for something simple like an RPG but for something like a fighting game, you're essentially doubling the workload.

I'm against Flashlight mainly because Flash Sentry is a shitty character. The romantic bits of Equestria Girls wouldn't have been so unbearable if Flash had shown any kind of motivation or personality during them. And 28% of you want to see more of that?

http://www.equestriagaming.com/ : Twilight Sparkle vs Trixie

First of all, features aren't the same as functionality. If you had actually paid attention in your programming classes, you would have learned that it's fine for a team to release a build that lacks some of its features as long as the features it managed to include are close to 100% functional i.e. working and bug-free. Some software production methodologies actually say its better to do this since getting a working prototype to your customers keeps them satisfied and allows them to see your progress. You can also gather feedback from them earlier on, which you can use to improve the overall quality of your product. Secondly, this game was made for a 24 hour game jam. In these kinds of competition, you have to make decide which features you can complete by the deadline and which features you can do without. The team probably built a basic, working version of their game and then polished it up with some graphics and music so they could impress the judges. It would have been better than submitting a game with no animation and all its feature only half-completed.

Super Smash Ponies : Opinion: C&Ds, Fighting is Magic and Super Smash Ponies

"To say that there is a way to give the game the same life and feel of the show without using the show's setting or characters is just downright impossible without breaking or reducing the attention of fans. "
If your fans are only interested in your game because it has MLP characters, they're not really your fans. They're fans of the show, not a fan of your game. They'd be satisfied with any game you give them as long as it has MLP characters in it. I don't know about you, but I certainly wouldn't want any fans like that. True fans would stick by you no matter what happens. They will support you no matter what direction you decide to take. Just look at Mane6. They decided to remake Fighting is Magic as an original game and they're receiving just as much support from their fans than they have before.
"To change the game's content and feel just to avoid legal trouble is even more naive not to mention disheartening. "
First of all, I don't see how making an original work based on your own creative vision is naive or disheartening. Isn't that what all artists strive strive for? Second, you shouldn't change your game just to avoid legal trouble. You should change your game only if you want to change your game. Doing it for any other reason will spoil the game's integrity. I was merely pointing out a problem and offering a solution. It's up to you whether you want to take my advice or not. But you've already sunk one year of work into this project. I would hate for you to lose any more.
"To have a game based on a roster with a clusterf-yay- of OCs is a remarkably duller feel than having the roster based with the ponies everyone in the fandom know and love. You don't combine the individual personalities of the characters we already know and generalize them as something replaceable. "
Not true. Case in point - the new Fighting is Magic. The team has stated that they're going to keep using the same movesets for their characters - movesets that were inspired by the My Little Pony characters. Pinkie's spontaneity, Rarity's grace, Applejack's fortitude, Fluttershy's timidity, Rainbow Dash's intensity and Twilight's reserved nature are embodied by these movesets. By giving the new characters these same movesets, Mane6 essentially transfers the essence of each MLP character into their new character, giving them the same life and energy. Sure, playing the new Fighting is Magic isn't going to give you the same experience as playing a game starring your favorite pony, but it's by no means more "dull".
"Why would any artist in their right mind ever want to release a work that is less quality than they aimed for?"
I believe the quality of a game depends more on the creativity and hard work of the development team than it does on the game's content. If you set out to make a good game, you will make one. And if you make a good game, people will play it. All this will happen regardless of whether or not you use MLP characters. Besides, if an artist has to rely on someone else's work to make their own work interesting, their own work probably wasn't that good in the first place.

"We have our means of avoiding trademark infringement as much as possible such as avoiding conventions, refusing all donations, personally paying for various services like internet domains and Gamemaker software, and tips from attorneys about their thoughts on the Fighting Is Magic fiasco." I hope you don't take what I'm about to say as a sign that I don't support this game and its development team. I want to see this game get made as much as anybody. At the same time, though, I can't help but feel the steps you're taking to "avoid" a Cease and Desist are a little naive. Staying out of the public eye or refusing donations is not going to help you avoid trademark infringement. You've already committed it. You committed it the instant you decided to create a game based on a copyrighted property. Hasbro has every right to tell you to stop production at any time. Sure, if you avoid conventions and keep the production of the game a secret you might avoid a C&D long enough for you to release a playable version but the threat of legal action is never going to go away. It's an inescapable fate - a Catch 22 where the more you succeed, the more likely it is for you to fail. The only sure way to avoid a Cease and Desist is to create an original game with original characters. I know that's probably not what you want to do, seeing as this is a fan game and all, but that's just the way things are. But there are plenty of ways to express your love of MLP without using copyrighted content. For example, you can create something that's inspired by MLP but not based on it. Find a way to give your game the same life and feel of the show but don't use any of the show's setting or characters. You can still make a game about fighting cartoon ponies. Those cartoon ponies can even remind you of MLP characters. Those ponies just can't be MLP characters. I'm not telling you guys to stop making this game. I'm just saying that if you were really concerned about avoiding legal action, you would start taking steps towards resolving those issues instead of continuing down the same path and blindly hoping that Hasbro's lawyers will ignore you for just a little while longer.
