That's strange. You seem to be here now. I probably will close it down soon but haven't done so yet.

Exactly the same. It would be cool if something like that existed too.

Atheist Revolution : The Wheres and Whens of Growing Up Atheist

That does seem like good advice for navigating the South, even today. I've been here a long time, but it still feels foreign in many ways.

Christianity has been evolving into something very different for some time. I remember being confused by the "muscular Christianity" we started to hear about in the 1990s, and that was just the start. I'm with you in that much of what I hear from right-leaning Christians these days doesn't remind me at all of the Christianity I grew up with.

That is a great reminder that there were parts of the U.S. where it wasn't a big deal to be an atheist even back then. I'm sure that's even more true today. Hopefully the pockets of bigotry will continue to shrink.

Atheist Revolution : Finding the Balance Between Staying Informed and Sinking Into Despair

That sounds like a great approach, and one I may have to try! The solution-focused content often seems scarce, but I would sure have more interest in it. As you said, I don't have any control over much of it.

Atheist Revolution : When Does the Irrational Belief Become Harmful?

That would be great, but I'd guess that most of those who believe in astrology don't feel that way. Some even think there is evidence to support it, so they won't see it as irrational. But yes, I'm sure there are many cases where a substitute belief could be even better.

Atheist Revolution : Secularism Keeps Us Free From Imposed Religion

It has been embedded into our political discourse for longer than I've been alive. I haven't noticed any evidence that this is changing even though there are periodic reports that church attendance and even god-belief may be in decline. This seems to be yet another case of politicians not being very representative of the people they govern.

Atheist Revolution : Craving Social Media Without the Doomscrolling

I can relate to the allure of wanting to stay informed. I find NPR helpful for that because it is easy to limit the time it is on to my commutes. Most social media has lost any appeal it once had, especially when it comes to staying up on the news. More than 90% of it seems to be opinion-based.

Maybe the fact that many people still aren't paying attention is a positive in this case. Perhaps voters will start to evaluate their choices rather than just going by label.

You sure are right about it being easier when one is enjoying it! I hadn't thought much about trying to leave it up if I do stop. That would mean I'd need to keep paying for the domain and doing some other housekeeping tasks. I suppose I should think through that and see what makes sense.

Yes, the long-term trends have been going in the right direction. This doesn't provide much consolation for those who are living through current events, but I hope we'll be able to get back on track and somehow avoid the more dire predictions associated with the climate crisis.

But if the people voted for this government and don't seem bothered by what it does, doesn't that reflect something about the culture that has changed over the past few decades? I hope you are right about the current climate being the final thrashing of something that is dying. I worry that it is only the beginning of where we are headed as climate change leads us to a scarcity of resources we haven't experienced before.
