How long is a house considered "suspected gang house" if there is no activity there in two years? Is everyone that has a concealed weapons permit and legal guns going to be subject to a draw down by a SWAT team if someone in their family has committed a misdemeanor? How frightening for the family. How horrible for community relations. This is where this the "Schenck" game plan goes into action. Instead of using the justice departments tactics, we have to make up our own. I have heard police officers bragging about people being out on the streets again walking and enjoying Sunnyside. That was their presentation at National Night out. Look at the rest of Mr. Warren's videos. I think if you are a young male out to get a snack at night, or ride your bike in the cool of the evening, you too may be considered and "enemy combatant". Does that add to our quality of life in Sunnyside? Not hardly. It's time to reel it in and 4everoceans hits the nail right on the head!

Sunnyside Slim, go listen to the audio recording of the meeting. Vlieger was the only one trying to completely ignore the vote of the people with his hench man Raines flip flopping on his libertarian "values". Restucci did a good job. Guerrero did a good job. Hancock did a good job. Vlieger and Raines grandstanded for the election. Hancock urged the City to have the zoning in place by the deadline of December 1. The rules Hancock cited were created by the Liquor control board, not hers or the cities. There are limits to proximity to schools etc., stricter for retail Marijuana dispensaries created by the State liquor Board. When Vlieger said he didn't care if we ever followed the law, Hancock told him that we didn't want to make Sunnyside the Court Case City and bankrupt the City on Attorney fee. If you are arguing that Hancock should have to shut down and move, are you then arguing that there can't be any responsible marijuana dispensaries? It boils down to responsible zoning, responsible sales and responsible adults not abusing substances.

Mr. Steven,
You may get voted down on this forum because your comments are ludicrous. If you listen to the January 28th meeting, it becomes evident that you know not of what you speak. Not only did your pal the former mayor allow you to ramble for 6 minutes but you used most of that time praising Sweet talking of how he has began to right "the good ship Sunnyside" and now in this posting you are condemning council persons who are "responsible for our fiscal demise" and condemning them because " Recently they supported Frank Sweet after his misdoings were more than evident." What misdoings happened between your regularly scheduled praise parties for Sweet as late as January 28th and the February 4th or today for that matter. Mr. Sweet had praise until he dared to try to bring some sanity to the Police Department. Again, same reason Gervasi is gone. Perhaps Vlieger is the reason that Schenck is in trouble? When an employee thinks they can be insubordinate to the City Manager and just run to his pet council member who is thrilled to be able to whip his puppets up to vote his way in illegal meetings and then threaten his way into running the City himself. His quotes of " I have the votes to fire you" or "That report (MGT) will never see the light of day" are why we lost the last two City Managers. Guess what Jim, your boys are the ones "who are responsible for our fiscal demise" And you want to talk about "corrupt officials"? Bingo, you support them. Restucci, Hancock, Garcia, Stone and Gehlen , along with Bridges and Nolan put a million in reserve and added back a police officer in 2010. Now let's see what we hear in the next few months after Vlieger, Farmer, Hicks and Raines have tripled taxes on utilities and we are quickly hitting the fiscal cliff with all departments making cuts except the sacred one. How on earth could you even begin to believe that your "favorite" council members didn't cause the "fiscal demise" The only answer they have is to say it must be incompetent staffs fault, not recognizing they are the incompetent ones running off the professionals.
And no, I will not give you my real name. I have read your hate mail and ugly remarks. You are not a nice man, and I don't think I could trust you to treat me in any better manner than you treat any council member who doesn't share your strange logic. Your ugly I-watch writings don't speak for me even if you list me as a member. What a joke that is.

Mr. Widmann, you are speaking out of both sides of your mouth. You are constantly criticizing and you seem to be the fearless leader of the armchair quarterbacks that thinks they can always call the plays better. All one has to do is go back and look at your comments in the past. With all your passion spent on trying to tell the council what to do and what a swell person Schenck is it makes me wonder, Is there a family connection there? Where do you get your information? Do you really know both sided of the information? I used to think you were a nice person that wouldn't judge others, well, that certainly isn't the case. You should go back to your day job, read your personnel policies and directives and see if you are really doing God's work.

It has been a sad situation for Sunnyside since they forgot the history of the original four horsemen. We are now cursed again with a new group of 4 with the same leader, Mr. Vlieger. The four who were so quick to let Mr. Gervasi go, (I'm sure with the same kind of threats that were levied on Mr. Sweet) because he dared to have a neutral company come in to do a "best practices" report on the Sunnyside Police Department. I recall reading with interest that only one council member asked for a background check on Mr. Sweet before he was hired. Mr. Vlieger has admitted in the newspaper that he had the votes to "fire" Mr. Sweet, and true to his back door politics he did. I remember just weeks before that the the council unanimously supported Mr. Sweet. Now there is inuendo about the city finances. I talked with a council member today that is not aware of what Mr. Raines is alluding to. More four horsemen tactics? Secret meetings? I asked about the multiple applicants that Mr. Raines alluded to in his editorial, again, the council member I talked to had no knowledge of more than one, and that person was Mr. Raines campaign manager. (Cronyism?) Is the talk about the budget issues another attempt to divert attention away from the fact that the former finance director Mr. Olson and City Manager Sweet both warned that the council had over spent money? That is exactly what I see is happening here. Your arguments are weak Mr. Raines. You've not done the community any favors except overplayed your hand so that we the voters can see that you are part of the problem and not part of the solutuion.

I am just wondering here, how is it that the SS school district ran a levy promising to support Sunnyside's Promise. The only one of the three that promised to see the program through supplying funding is the city. SS school district has not put their money where there mouth is. To go on to say that it seems like Rick Cole has hoped this project would fail from the beginning. If the schools do not really get serious about intervention, who will? Step up School Board! Next Levy I will vote a resounding no!
