The thought that Sam loves the idea of state patty’s day is so cool. He made a great point, we as students have come up with our own holiday! Something only Penn State does. Something the student have put together. So Sam thinks that NOT having a state patty’s day would be a good thing for Penn state. I understand where he is coming from and although I don’t agree with him, he makes a great point. Students are tired of all the camera action this campus is getting. The news only shows what they want to show and it makes Penn State look really bad. State Patty’s day, from what I have seen and been a part of it is all about drinking. Wearing green and doing one of the things Penn State is known for, partying. If things get bad, student will be making it easy for the news to put us under the bad light….again. Many students at the end of class were asking how this would help Penn State. How giving something else up (Joe Pa was the first thing we had to let go) would help us look better, there wont be news vans around recording, nothing. Recording students not drinking, they wont even be talking about state patty’s day and how we are not having it. This is because the rest of the world doesn’t know what it is. This is where Sam is making his point, by NOT doing it we avoid looking bad to the rest of the world. If we drink and party the only thing we are doing it making our self look bad. It really is a huge event and the news loves things like this. I understand that we do not want to make our self look bad but the idea of telling everyone one else not to drink is harder. There are so many people that go to this school. On top of that there are so many other people out side of Penn state that come here to drink, the idea of telling everyone NOT to drink gets really hard. Now I know WE ARE PENN STATE, and if we really really… really wanted to we could make this happen but the truth is there are many people out there that don’t care. That could care less about what the news thinks. Now that is a great mindset but Penn State needs to step it up. Its time to start bring some good to the news. I hope that Penn State can stay out of the news, all the news vans around campus is really stupid. It does not help us in any way shape of form. Sam has a great idea and I understand were he is coming from but 600 students wont get the word out.

The biggest question that got to me in class was when Sam said that the rest of the world was asking what kid of people we are. The fact that people think that Penn State is siding with this stupid! JoePa means a lot to this schoool, i dont believe that he did anything wrong, but because he is JoePa he should have done more! He, the face of PennState, should of done sooo much more, but now there is nothing he can do for us. Its the job of the students and staff here to show people what Penn State really means now! What it means to be nittany Lion.

Everyone that was around them was just standing there with their phones out, taking pictures. But like we all know people want the best story, and that was it. But the most important thing that Sam said was something that we all need to better understand, something that we all kind of lost site of, the Kids. The ones that were hurt by the actions of one man, and the silence of a few others. I believe that as students here at Penn State we have every right to be upset about Joe Pa having to go. But what people need to see is that Penn State wants to fix this problem. Penn state is sorry that something like this would happen around people that stand for so much. I do believe that we will get through this. Penn state is hurt, no were near the pain that these kids went throught, but a different kind of pain. I hope that we all can come together and take steps so that something like this never happens again. Like my mother say, its the only way to learn. My heart goes out to the kids and their families. i pray that other schools learn from this and that people from all around understand that Penn State didnt do this, but that we are sorry it happened and that we are here to help.

This lecture way by far a very needed one. i didnt check my email before walking into the class so i was very shock when i saw how many people were in the classroom when i walked in. I remembered him telling us they were filming but i didnt think so many people were going to show up. Once class started i was happy to hear that Sam was going to be talking about the events that were going on at Penn State. I believe that the students that stood up and told us how they felt was a great way to start because for many of the responces i felt the same. Everything that is going on here at PennState is very upsetting. Its sad to see that such an amazing school is being showcase as a horriable one. This school does so much more than i can even think of. I believe that one of the things that is really getting to us students is the fact that the News is only showing the bad. The events that took place downtown werent as bad as they made it seem. Like Sam said it was 10 stupid kids that went crazy,

As soon as I saw this video I know it was the one I wanted to do for this week. Racism is seen, heard of and experienced all over. Now this isn’t to say that racism is seen every day, but at some point somewhere in the world someone is a victim of racism. Racism is being prejudice or discriminating against someone due to his or her racial background. Now this can be seen on all different levels. From calling some one a name to not letting them do something like any other race. Giving one race more opportunities to do something and not another. Racism is seen with ever race out there. I really don’t believe that it will be going away any time soon, because a little bite of racism can be seen as pride for ones race. Now this does not make it okay, society needs to do a better job of teaching younger kids that everyone is equal and that no one is better the person next to them because of their race. Every now and then you hear people say, “Its because I’m black right..” or “ I bet if I was white you wouldn’t say anything to me…” Some times this may be true but most time people just say it because things are not going their way. I remember the first time that I really felt like I was a victim of racism. It was my 2nd year at Penn State and me and my best friend Morgan went out to eat like we always do during the week. Now the campus that we went to like every other campus at Penn State was in the middle of a very white town. But the students that went to this campus, or better yet lived on campus were mostly black. They were from New York and Philly. So like I was saying, me and Morgan went out to eat, we went to a place that we go to all the time. Only this time when we left the place, there was a group of guys in a car outside, parked next to us. When Morgan and I walked out, the group of young men starting shouting at us. At first we did not know what they were saying, but once we got to the car we could hear them calling us Niggers! We had no idea what to do. So we walked in the car as fast as we could and got in and finally drove away. When we got back to our place we park in the parking lot and just stared at each other. At that point I said, “were we just victims of racism?”. She looked at me and said “yea… I think we were”. We were so upset about what happened because we had gone there so many times and it was never a problem. After this event, we no longer went there.

I love the fact that they did the show to give everyone a little bit of the inside store but as well as to tell be to stop looking and taking pictures. They are people just like everyone else. They have do things completely different than any another individual, and I really hope they do another show when they get much order, I respect their private life, but if they did have a show talking about their love life, moving away from home and things about them getting order and facing with all that I would love to see it.

I was truly amazed to see that these girls are driving, some people can’t drive to save their lives, but these girls do a great job of working together and taking turns. They have been asked for an explanation as to how they do everything, but they do a great job of keeping to themselves. The questions that their teachers ask are all hard concepts these girls are going to face. Everyone should remember that although they come as one; they still are two different people. When it comes to working it there should be two different paychecks, two different interviews. The girls have to work closely together and give up a lot of what they personally want and meet half way. They have to get a job they both enjoy and both can do great work in. The girls in this video have been dealt a card that many have never even seen before and it is their life. Working together is what is going to get them through life happy. One thing they have above all other people is that no matter what, no matter where, no matter how bad life gets they will always have someone by their side

I was really happy to see this video post up when we had to pick one to blog about. I’ve seen these girls on TV before but only for a minute because I was on my way to class. I saw a minute of them when they were a lot younger. I was really happy to see that these girls are grown now and working together. These girls are truly amazing; in terms of how well they work together. Freedom is completely redefined for these girls, but it is the life they live and deal with it very well. They are forced to do everything together from getting dressed in the morning, to going to school, going to the bathroom, and even the friends they have.

First, I do not really agree with what the question is stating to begin with. At no point is there are rule that states a girl must “dress up” to go out. There is no dress code before stepping out for the night. I honestly believe girls choose to dress the way they do solely because its how they wish to dress. Now, when going out to a club or lounge type area there is a given dress code. I believe that this fully gives the location a certain theme. Clubs and place like a club want people to be dressed up, they want ladies to look like ladies and men to look like men. Ladies go out to have a good time, I personal believe to have a good night I have to START off by looking good. If I am not happy with the way I am dressed, I wont feel comfortable the rest of the night. Weekends are a big time for cameras to come out and capture the events going on. If I do not looking good I wont want to be in picture. Looking good does not always mean heels and short shirts. Ladies can look just as good in jeans and a blouse as they do in dress. I believe dressing up is part of being women, its something we get to take our time with, and at times do with other girls. Guys do get dressed up but their dress up is different. There is not much they have to do, a guy could come straight out of work in his suit, go to a bar, or a club, or even to dinner wearing the same thing and it would be fine. A girl couldn’t always do the same; dressing up for work is a little different than dressing up for a night around the town. I like wearing heels, after a long night my feel start to hurt but non-the less I still wear them. Its something guys don’t do, it sets women aside. Now there are time when women really dress to impress, with super tight clothes and extra high heels. But this is not every girl out there, people need to understand that most if not all girls enjoy dressing up. I for one love it; I go to class in sweets and yoga pants so when the weekend comes I cannot wait to find out what the weekend brings. I get to pick outfits, something different for every night, something different for the different groups of people I am going to run into. Men really do not have much to think about when they go out. Jeans and a tee work great almost anywhere they go. Girls on the other hand have to pick between: dresses, shirts, shorts, jeans, leggings, tights, the list goes on forever.

Being Hispanic, I hear all kinds of different stereotypes about my own race. Although there are many things that I do agree with there are also many things that I don’t agree with. Things like we are all loud, and we are all wet back’s. Which is not always true because people like me, were born in the USA. Or better yet my favorite, Spanish girls get pregnant before they turn 18. As you can tell I am turning 20 and having a baby any time soon is not in the plans. There are also stereotypes about other races that I do not agree with. Some of the stereotypes about black people that I do not believe, or better yet I do not believe is true to all black people are they all eat chicken. I have a few black friends that don’t like chicken, though they would eat it, its not there favorite. I also do not believe that all black people are drug user. I have so many friends that do not do any drugs and even more then that; a few of them don’t even drink. I also hear that black people can’t swim, which I have never seen before because all of my friends back home always come out swimming with me other the summer. Some stereotypes that I hear about white people that I do not believe are: they sleep with their cousins; they smell like dogs when they are wet, and they wear shorts in the winter. Though at this campus I see so many guys wearing shorts now, I believe that it will change when it gets so much colder at state College. Some other stereotypes that I do not believe are those that deal with education. When I say this I mean things like all Spanish people can’t speak English right, Asians are amazing great at math, and white people do a great job in school. I also do not agree fully with the ideas that Asians suck at driving. To be completely honest one of the best driver I know, who might be the only person that I would allow to drive my car is an Asian guy. No one really knows were these stereotypes come from but the point is that each race has different stereotypes. The funny thing about them is that every single one can be applied to any other race at any given time. I know many white people that suck at drive. So many of the white girls that I know, after being in their car one time with them, I would never risk my life ever again. I also know many Asian who are not any good at math. This just goes to show that stereotypes are not 100% correct.
