Wow, Maxine, way to go, Gal!!! I am so happy that you are leading the charge today on taking action. You quite easily took out the best points in the note. And, I think you are an enlightened parent, otherwise you wouldn't be thinking about improving your children's upbringing :)

Sorry, Chris, the notification of my reply would have gone again to you. I wrote so fast and wanted to send it so fast, forgot to check for typos, and today of all days, had made so many of them :) and, yes, It would be a great idea for all of us to vote on the five best books that we want to keep for company. Is Brian listening !!!

Wow, it seems like you are transforming half a life's journey into a para with limited word count. You are right, this is home. A home where today's student brains (with Brian) are in attendance with some of the finest human brains that ever came to inhabit earth. In reading books, we make a deep and honest friendship with the writer's mind. If one could be the summation of the five best life coaching books one has read, one can be a superlative human being. Each of the life changing experiences I read here, resonates somewhere inside me and brings back the same theme to mind: Its the people who operate from a control/fear mindset that are so afraid of people who operate from love/light that they must try to make them fall into the abyss of darkness, lest their ugliness becomes apparent in the light. In myriad forms, its the same story that plays again and again. But we are light warriors of the Spirit, even though the Spirit makes us go through tough tests before handing over a light beacon to us.

that sounds like a rough rap on your knuckles from the Universe! Because the universe Knows that you are capable of lot more than you believed yourself to be. Comfort zone is a soul killer zone. But, our Universe Guide doesn't like his favorite children falling behind and creates conditions that would force them to move out of comfort zone and into the wild rapids again. I always say thanks to the Universe for all the challenges that come my way. But for them, I would be living like a vegetable.

Very right, Mark. The fact is that I am enjoying this 'exercise' so much that I am wishing that the day had 48 hours instead of 24! Great that you are doing the flowchart. I would compile it into something too. goals should be realistic, and I usually set mine a wee bit on the higher side. Correction time :)

I was wondering about what is said about turning your weaknesses into your greatest strengths. What you call 'inconsistency trait' could be turned into spurts of genius if you would look at the productive time as the 'shooting for the stars' time and Know that you can take a well deserved break after doing that. That would be one less stick to beat yourself with, Perfectionist Buddy!! lol.

FinerMinds : Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi - Day 16 Of The PhilosophersNotes Challenge

I think its a simple equation : Challenge for Individual A = Capabilities PERCIEVED by Individual A. If today you perceive your capability as a C+ grader, you would enjoy the challenges at C+ level. If you change your perception of you capabilities to A+, you would start enjoying A+ challenges. Soul building is aimed at your perceptions, not at the challenges. But, I think you already do know this inside yourself :), otherwise you wouldn't have pushed your limits.

I agree 100%, Linda. Foe each individual, its the perception that defines the universe. In as much as everyone's perception of Self and the world differ, we all experience different universes on the same earth, That is why Mehaly says, "subjective experience Is the life"

I personally believe that no human being is 'bad'. 95% of human behavior is learnt behavior and by definition, changeable. That is why we are all learning new habits here with P Notes. There was this slim li'l book called 'I'm OK, You're OK' that can teach basic human psychology very effectively. Maybe that would give you some insight into molding the kids' behavior. Basically all human beings look for brownie points to gather from other human beings, especially children. But what is not apparent to many people is that the scale does not go from 'bad brownies' to 'no brownies' to 'good brownies' but from 'No Brownies' to 'Bad Brownies' to 'Good Brownies'. Bad brownies are preferable to no brownies. With all that they have suffered, your kids, by their (assumed) bad behavior, are just silently crying out for positive attention and affirmation of themselves as worthy children. My heart goes out to them and you. please, I wish you would always focus on good brownies when you deal with them.

Excellent input, "increase the demands for speed, quality and fun design". Many a times people try to enhance the quality of work or the speed of work, but the fun element is mostly missing. Perhaps its an example of another very deep seated conditioning.. Work is NOT supposed to be fun! This industrial revolution age idea should really be buried. Work must be fun or it become the cause of numerous illnesses and stresses. If we all took this as a 'flow challenge' and took responsibility to make our daily work more 'fun', life would be so much happier.. Happier a la Ben Shahar!

Hey, seems like a nice idea to try. It would at least serve to 'decondition' my brain which is so used to thinking and responding in a linear manner. But then, the cognition theory also says that whatever new information is learnt, is easily forgotten unless reinforced by practice. It is in this context that I said that I need to do all these notes at a slower pace, with the original books for deeper understanding, and at the pace of prolly one book each week to be practiced thoroughly, because all these books have precious lessons that I want to commit to long term memory and behavior.
