I don't manage interns, but I do have experience being mansplained at by the occasional person who has no knowledge or experience with my work telling me how I should be doing it instead and talking over me when I try to say anything. Some people would really benefit from a punch in the teeth.

That "we would have factored it into our argument" pushed the whole thing into self-righteous Hermione territory for me. I understand the importance of being able to organize for better working conditions, and I can accept that an issue seeming petty to me might just mean I haven't learned to see what makes it relevant. But that comment made the letter-writer sound so immature and wrongheaded that I couldn't sympathize with her anymore.

Chris Murphy, god bless him, just emailed me asking if I would give my senator Ted Cruz a call and talk some sense into him about this gun control thing. I'm about ready to do it just to see what his office has to say.
