Loved the "used cat litter." I have a cat and lots of used litter but never thought of mixing it together with my used needles. Brilliant.

I am glad you have found an acceptable solution. I would also emphasize that you should put the end caps back on after you use your needle. I do. It saves added waste and all but ensures that no one gets accidentally stuck, even if they are stupid enought to open the bottle. You are correct in that you are a worrier. Where and how druggies get their needles is something you have absolutely no control over. If they are going to go dumpster diving there is nothing you can do to stop them short of watching every dumpster that may have used needles in them. By the way, what do you suppose your pharmacy, your clinic, or hospitals do with them if they accepted your containers? You guessed it! They go right into the non-recyclable garbage!

There is nothing wrong with using a 2 liter pop bottle. The only difference is that it is not a bright red container marked as sharps. If you really want to spend your money you can buy a "sharps" container at your local pharmacy. But why waste your money on something you don't need. It's not as if the needles, especially if they are recapped, are going to poke threw and get someone. By the way: I am diabetic and have used pop bottles for years. Since I buy a lot of diet pop it turns out to be an economical way to dispose of both.

You are quite correct. However, every business, whether a Safeway or a Subway, wants to maximize their profit margin. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with that. If any business can reduce costs just a little bit here and there everyone wins.

Unbelievable? Maybe, but just look what happened a while back with Metro Transit's tunnel security. They wouldn't intervene when a young girl was being beat by several other girls. Same situtation but different ending. Because the employees were "following the rules" of non-intervention the company was fired by Metro. Not because they did anything wrong but because they made Metro look like pluperfect fools.

Mouse64, the Good Samaritan laws also prevent suits for inaction, Thank Heavens! I think Jeff Ellis & Assoc. need to have their clocks cleaned! Yes, he broke their rules and probably should have a verbal reprimand for that and an immediate job well done for helping the man survive. Jeez, you'd think people (managers) would have common sense about such situations. Jeff Ellis should know there is no way they are going to come out ahead in this debacle of their own making.

Magic 8: The only thing I have against an immediate jail sentence is that jail time is expensive to the max. Plus we already have crowded jails. I say wait and see if there is a second offense, then lower the boom. After all, everyone is entitled to one mistake. Besides, my suggested mandatory car interlock and suspended license is no slap on the wrist.

There are many, many options Magic 8, regardless of 8wrong and 2009ultra's snide remarks. Ultimately it is up to our State Legislature to set the rules. They can be from permanent removal of your driver's license to X number of years in jail and $????.?? fines to something far less draconian. I suggest progressive mandatory punishments. 1st: 1 year car interlock, 8 hours of drunk classes, and court costs. 2nd: 6 month suspension of driver's license, 2 year car interlock after suspension, alcohol addiction evaluation with 16 hours of class time. And of course, court costs. And the list goes on. Feel free to suggest your own ideas.
