Elliot, Your generation has most likely skipped some important history lessons. Socialism doesn't work, it never has and never will. Do you home work and study some history. Socialism might sound like a good thing and if you study communism it sounds even better but the reality is that some one has to be in power and human nature is to abuse that power. Socialism and communism take away peoples incentives to produce, afterall, if we both have the same benefits and salary why should I work any harder than you?? I'm going to get the same as you so why even bother? I know our captialist system seems to be messed up but believe me it is much better than your alternative. Everything you could possibly want is availble to you and all you have to do is work for it! THe other way some politician will decide what you need and want.

No, WWII did not correct the Depression by spending but rather by massive employment creation. That's what is lacking in the current initiative. It claims to create jobs but it really isn't.
