The central issue is simply a lie is a lie. In order to carry the truth you have to be a truthful person. Nobody can change the past, but many people may be hurt or have their trust worn down due to past deception.
Muslims, Orthodox Christians, committed Jews, Sikh, American Indians and many other faith groups have other perceptions of modesty than the Christian norm that has been imposed for years. Muslims wear not just tops and shirts, but scarves too as tenets of their faith. Christians cover their tops as a tenet of faith and part of their religious perception of modesty. Why do all of us AMERICANS have to be forced to do what Christian norms accept, why can't American citizens be beacons of light and let all citizens as well as all residents have religous freedom to follow their own tenets of modesty? James Madison who authored OUR constitution was in support of protecting the minority from oppression. People with more modesty than mainstream Christians should not be forced to follow Christian norms.
A scarf is not a symbol of Islam comparable to a cross. Perhaps a crescent or something of that lines would be like a cross. And if you want to prohibit wearing a crescent necklace or something of the order so be it. The scarf is the modesty equivalent for Muslims as for Christians wearing a top or shirt. So it is discriminatory to permit Christian religion norms of modesty like wearing a shirt or top while prohibiting Muslim women to abide by their modesty norms of wearing a scarf and covering all that they believe is nudity for them. Why are Christians allowed to be as modest as they want but other faiths not permitted their modesty? That is plain out descrimination and imposing the Christian faith norms onto other faiths.
