The problem is that they and other large banks offered consumers loans with interest rates and home prices that people could not possibly afford. Republicans wanted and fought hard for deregulation policies that benefited banks and large corporations, which they now are trying to pin on Democrats. When all Americans have better access to home ownership, the middle class can prosper. Republican economic policies lead to concentration of wealth and take money out of circulation. Who can afford to buy corporate goods and services when we have no middle class? the Republicans "trickle down theory" and "supply side economics" does not work. We need a prosperous middle class who can afford a home within their reach. We also need a complete reformation of lending practices and CEO compensation.
