I like Tull and the Who; as for most creative, King Crimson is my choice, even over Tull.

No, we are not donatists. Yes, he needs to go: he is not professing orthodoxy while living differently; he is insisting upon his rights.

I used a picture of the painting in the children's sermon last Sunday. Glad to hear it has been recovered.

Cranach: The Blog of Veith : What Pastors and Hearers Owe to each other

I've seen first-hand the devastation the presence of a novice in the office can create. Maturity beats the enthusiasm of the newbie; our culture's fixation on the novel is the source for at least some of the tension between pastor and people. At the bottom, though, it's old Adam vs. new, the age old battle that rages not only in congregations but in our souls.

Cranach: The Blog of Veith : Get a Master's Degree in the Beatles

I was just thinking this morning how our children's children will never have heard of the Beatles, or if they have, they will not know their names. So much for being bigger than Jesus Christ. Perhaps our children's children will not know His name either.

Cranach: The Blog of Veith : If you see this painting at a garage sale. . .

If it is Cranach (I agree it is), notice the hand up--as if he were forbidding the children. A humble confession, and one those of us (mea culpa) who have ever rolled our eyes at the "noise" in church should share.

Cranach: The Blog of Veith : What's with the common table prayer?

I think laziness counts for a lot. But the lengthening of the Common Table Prayer (I've seen various versions) perhaps bespeaks some guilt and a desire for more "meat" (ha ha).

Cranach: The Blog of Veith : Is Rush Limbaugh conservative?

Rush is not the leader of the Republican Party. As an entertainer and a demagogue, he uses extreme language to make his points. But this is an age of shouting, and it is hard to express complex points or subtle distinctions to the hard of hearing (thanks to Flannery O'Conner). So hats off to Rush; long may he rant.
